The 35 TL has an excellent reputation, but its size kept me from getting one. I am not a 50mm user that much so the 35s don't get used much, if I'm traveling I carry one. My 2 CL/TL lenses are the 11-23 and the 23, I use the 11-23 for 80% of my images. I’m curious when you pull out the 23mm summicron. Is it when you need the extra 2 stops? I’m trying to decide which way to go myself for indoor wider angle shooting to supplement my 11-23. My 35 summilux-M is just too close in the CL. Advertisement Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Hi Steve Peck, Take a look here Should I replace my “Summilux-M 1:1.4/35 ASPH” with a “Summilux-TL 35 f/1.4 ASPH.” for my CL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stephengv Posted January 25 Share #22 Posted January 25 I have both the 23 Summicron and 35 Summilux TL. The 35 Summilux TL is a different beast. The quality is superb. However, it makes the CL big. While, the 23 Summicron, the CL becomes a “mini M”.
swatch Posted January 25 Share #23 Posted January 25 (edited) for OP, the only benefit of TL 35mm over Summilux-M 35mm is autofocus and the downside of TL 35mm is diminishing value because of foreseeable broken/non-working CL in future. TL 35mm can be used on SL and LUMIX S camera lineup but given currently available good value choices of L mount 45/50mm from Panasonic and Sigma, there isn’t a reason for better image quality to use TL 35mm on SL or LUMIX S camera. the only TL zoom lenses are really worth to keep if you have, is TL 11-23mm and TL 55-135mm, for SL3 with 60mp because full frame equivalent 16-35mm and 70-200mm are much heavier in weight and bigger in size for SL camera. the only TL prime lens is worth to keep if you have and like pancake lens, TL 18mm on SL camera would be a perfect fit. CL is a good camera in very light weight and I still have it and bring it for overseas travel with a lot of walk on foot. The 23 on the 11-23 is slightly wider than the Summicron 23. I the 23 when I want to carry the camera under a jacket, rainy days and such, or when I want a smaller package. The extra 2 stops (actually 2 1/3 stops) helps too. I'm getting used to higher ISOs on the CL, I'll use 1600 willingly and 3200 if I have to, f3.5 on the wide side of the 11-23 is acceptable.
