I just received my SL# last week and had gone thru Nick Rains You Tube video to learn about the revised menu system for the SL2. At the end of the video, Nick shows how to press an icon on the info bar and it opens that particular item for adjustment without going back into the menu system,. For example, he touches the icon for White Baab=nce and the options appear on the screen. I have also seen this on other SL3 videos. The info bars on my SL3 do nothing when pressed. They are not interactive. Since these videos were made when the SL3 came out last March, did the recent firmware upgrade render the interactive info bars into status bars only? Or do I have a defective SL3. I have reset the camera with the same result, non-interactive info bars.

Thank you in advance for any response or information on rectifying this issue.

Hi Gordon,

Thank you for the reply. The answer is yes, all of the other touch functions seem to work as they should. It is only the Info Bars that are unresponsive.

I asked the sales person about this and the response was that they were not supposed to be interactive, just for information only. Hmmmm.

Thank you.

Tom

If you are talking about the bar(s) that appear on to top or bottom or side, I don’t think those are touch activated. You need to press Menu button on back of camera to display your settings. Those ARE touch sensitive on the lcd panel.

Hi Jonathan,

The You Tube video from Nick at Leica Australia showing this function is located at about the 50 minute mark of his presentation. For reference, the You Tube can be accessed here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_vLPOKkKxY

Your observations are appreciated. It is not that big of a deal one way or another. I was just trying to follow his lead on the video and when it did not work, thought it might be something that was either changed during a firmware upgrade, or did not make it into the final production unit.

Thanks for the input guys!

Tomrc.

i watched that part of the video and you are correct. It looks like it is more of a press-and-short-hold.

Now you have me wondering. I will check this in the AM and report back. It may also be some setting that enables that???

there are some function when touch and hold will give you a other option.

it is hit and miss as you have to hold until something comes, and some icon next to it where you would need a change do nothing.

I find most of does info changes are very slow and other ways are more precise and faster

I have a new SL3 with a similar issue.  the top/side icons are sometimes responsive to touch and sometimes not.  It also affects activating the ISO dial when the shutter button is pressed. This is supposed to be the correct operation of the camera in both cases.

I have reached out to Leica USA - there is a staff member there who I have been interacting with...as they are understaffed, it is taking some time to get a definitive discussion/diagnosis.

At this point, I am writing this off to new/immature firmware as the touch screen does work at times for both of these functions.  Given the literally infinite number of states the system has to manage, this would not be out of the question (though somewhat annoying).

The camera in general great - will be much better over time with firmware evolution.

Will keep this thread updated as I learn more.

Last night I reset the camera once again and the side bar worked, but not the others. This morning, none of them worked. Perhaps georgecp is correct. The firmware is in its infancy and we need to wait for it to grow up.

Thanks everyone for all of the responses.

So I did a little testing. I found that when viewing with the LCD, most of my TOP icons worked on a press and hold, with the exception of the battery icon. I realized there really are no icon on the bottom: just shutter speed, f/stop, metering and frame count. The RIGHT side Icons are buggy. If I press and hold any one of those (Profile, Perspective, etc.) I got a message asking if I wanted to resize focus frame. Oddly, self timer did bring up it's options.

I use 100% of the time EVF Extended, so none of the above is of great importance to me since access to LCD is limited to image review. I mostly use the back Menu button to change things.

BTW- I've really come to love the left hand ISO dial. It has come in handy all the time.

Photoworks.

On my camera, the right side (#'s 4,24,25,27) all bring up the "Change focus area size" option. #26- self timer, brings up the correct option to set that. Probably a bug with my camera. Using latest firmware. Otherwise camera works beautifully!

I do wish there was a display in the viewfinder in Shooting Mode that showed the current focal length like it does in the Control Center #03.

yes sounds like an issue, they work for me, but I don't like that sidebar, to slow.

I have changed the connection icon to the profiles
