Can't recall seeing (dead) birches sprouting fungi up their whole length before. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here Birch Trees Sprouting Fungi. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Keith (M) Posted October 14, 2024 Author Share #2 Posted October 14, 2024 I posed a question elsewhere on the web about the fungi seen above and received the answer:- It is a bracket fungus called Birch Polypore (Fomitopsis betulina) a very common fungus on Birch trees. Infects trees through wounds/damage and eventually kills them. It continues to produce fruiting bodies (the brackets) long after the tree dies. So now I know! 😀
