xnlo Posted October 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings, I’ve recently purchased my first Leica film camera (M4) from my local camera shop but when I got home to take a better look at it I noticed the frame counter didn’t advance when I cocked the lever and pressed the shutter. For context, I haven’t loaded film inside yet. Secondly, my frame counter indicator starts here (without film inside): is this a normal starting position? Anticipating your help. Thank you! TomB_tx Posted October 12, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2024 (edited) The counter should reset to 2 before zero, or one to the right of where you show it. Your photo is where it should be if you wound once. One more should take it to zero. The two "before zero" shots are to use up the light-exposed leader of the film. Usually "shot zero" is usable too. It should reset to "two below" when you remove the bottom plate, and won't advance until you replace the plate and wind on. This is a change from the M3 that would reset only when you pulled the take-up spool out of the camera. Edited October 12, 2024 by TomB_tx
