Advertisement Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Audi R8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted January 6, 2008 Share #22 Posted January 6, 2008 One of these Audi's was parked outside my hotel in Berlin each day, so I had a good look at it. It's different certainly, but would I choose one over one of the more thoroughbred sports cars if I had the money to spend? People buy these types of car to make a statement. I'm not sure Audi - excellent cars though they are - have enough cachet for the market. If you were offered a straight choice between a Leica digicam or the equivalent Panasonic, honestly, which would you choose?
elansprint72 Posted January 6, 2008 Share #23 Posted January 6, 2008 If you were offered a straight choice between a Leica digicam or the equivalent Panasonic, honestly, which would you choose? James, Not really a valid comparison; the R8 is just about the same price as its direct competitors, it's like saying choose between an R8 and a Lamborghini Murcilago, which is somewhat more expensive yet has distinct family ties. I would take the AUDI, and I'm no AUDI fan, normally, the car is that good!
earleygallery Posted January 6, 2008 Share #24 Posted January 6, 2008 Jeremy Clarkson seemed quite impressed here; Jeremy Clarkson Audi R8 review | Driving - Times Online I still think, good though it may be, when it comes to putting one's own money on what for most purchasers will be a 2nd or 3rd car, they'll go for something like the 911. Photoskeptic Posted January 6, 2008 Share #25 Posted January 6, 2008 James, interesting your remarks about certain magazines and car testers. Back in the late '60's and '70's Car and Driver magazine here in the states had an abysmal record of trashing test cars. They would always list 0-60 times faster than any other magazine for the same vehicle. Many of those vehicles were returned to the manufacturer or importer broken! As to Jeremy Clarkson - I've been away from the automotive scene for several years but am familiar with the bloke - I'm surprised he can fit into many of these cars I mean, the guys an elephant! Guest flatfour Posted January 7, 2008 Share #26 Posted January 7, 2008 James - Well Clarkson has changed his mind. An early comment by him was not favourable but it could hve been before he actually drove it. He now seems to like it a lot - but then he hates Porsches.
