Leitz, Leicaflex SL Red Lens Release Button - Yours might be just fine

I spoke with one of the few, Leitz, Leicaflex factory-trained repair guys about the red plastic lens release button/lever on my Leicaflex SL, and whether I should replace it with the metal one. 

This is what he said: 

"I talked to the son of the designer of the red plastic lens lock button on the Leicaflex SL camera & he said that the metal pin that's inserted into the red plastic had to be installed at the correct temperature & most were not which caused the plastic to eventually crack, so if yours is not cracked, it means it was correctly made & will last another 50 years. so, I would leave it as is"

Well, there you go...

It is one of the few, plastic parts on that camera anyway 😉
