Anyone had any experience with how good these Master Classes are produced by Thorsten Overgaard?

My Q3 arrives tomorrow and thought this may help me get familiar with it?

His classes are very expensive at $369 so wouldn't obviously pay that,  but its 90% off so about £30 in UK.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

No one needs a master class to use a Leica camera unless they never used a camera before in their life, and can’t read the manual. Total waste.

I bought the Q3 master classes about 3months ago and still the classes are not available. In my library keeps saying coming soon. Like you, I reached out by email to them and got one reply. Coming soon.  When I don't know. No one replies now. If anybody learns any new information please let me know. I think for future purchases I'll wait for everything to be available first.

Credit card chargeback. There you go.

I've purchased several of Thorsten's classes/books, typically in a "bundle discount" package, and while I agree that some of the classes may be a bit basic, I also find his commentary and perspective consistent.  He prefers the M body, shoots wide open, prefers lots of Bokeh and faster lenses with very narrow depth of field.  If you accept that premise, there is some benefit to at least exploring his approach.   Given all the "stuff" being sold these days I didn't think spending less than $20 on an ebook was going to destroy my financial plan, so I've been perhaps more tolerant of his product line than some others.  Still, I understand how frustrating things have become with his marketing team.  They moved to a new platform some time ago, and since then things have indeed deteriorated.  I've not attended any of his classes, nor do I expect to, but in the world of the Internet we're free to support him or not.

One photographer's voice I miss is Ming Thein.  He's website is mostly dormant as he shifted from photography to watch design and production!  He had a well known business shooting products, many of them high end watch related.  He also shot cars and more, and worked with Hasselblad, being very involved with the 907x and lens design, before moving to watches full time.

His greatest contribution, at least to me, was his many teaching videos where he explained how he sees the world when creating an image, and teaches how you can do the same.  His photo technique I would classify as "cinematic" - he is a very technically skilled photographer and shared videos showing how to learn these methods for improving your image composition all the way into final product.  It is almost the opposite of Overgaard.  He's not a big fan of atmosphere (bokeh, for example), but prefers using the entire frame to tell a story that draws you into the image in a very different way.  His images are creative and technically stunning, at least to me.  While I miss reading his thoughts on newer gear, his extensive (and searchable) website articles of his earlier work is still available online at no cost.

I found his reviews to be very well done, striking a balance between "gear/spec" and "creativity" attention in the same review.  I'd classify his approach as balanced and "zenlike" in the most positive way.  Here's his (admittedly dated) review of the Nikon Z7 and 24-70 f/4.0 zoom:  https://blog.mingthein.com/2018/09/29/2018-nikon-z7-24-70-review/   If you like the images in his review article, his Core Photography classes (1-5) show you how to replicate his technique.

A listing of his prior courses (many of which I purchased and can view as I desire) are located here:  https://blog.mingthein.com/teaching-store/

It may be possible to purchase them if you reply to his Instagram email address on his site.  I was able to purchase a few classes I hadn't purchased earlier that way.

There are so many good YouTube videos out there on setting up and using any camera in the universe I don't know why anyone would pay for that, especially when the person does not have the best reputation.

I've never found Leica's to be so complicated that the manual or a video wouldn't answer a question.  I (also) have a Canon R5 and the manual for that is 950 pages long and almost impossible to find anything.  YouTube has been my friend for figuring that thing out, Tony Northrop videos being the exception.  LOL.
