I went to B&H in NY and tried the round hood with a circular polarizer screwed in. I found I was able to easily get my fingers inside the hood and turn the filter without touching the filter (important). I am happy with the appearance of the hood - it doesn't look very obtrusive at all as I had imagined it might. Hardly different than the original square hood... So, except for the price, I am happy with this choice over getting a Haoge or some future Leica similar fix. But, I agree, I do think Leica should comp me for this purchase. You can get a knock off from Amazon which has exactly same quality /shape/ material for $50. Why go with Leica?

Interesting, thanks for sharing… I do really like Haoge lens hood, it also has enough space to stack filters, should you wish… Also the colour and quality is simply perfect… C. So long as you are pleased with it, that’s brilliant… I’m not wild about the round hoods, and when I can get a seemingly identical quality hood from Hoage for under $40, I wouldn’t have made the same decision… Obviously there are two camps, those who like round hoods, and those you prefer rectangle heads. We are all different… When you have time, would be nice to see a picture… Thanks for sharing… C

classba Posted December 8, 2024 Share #85 Posted December 8, 2024 Chris, my Haoge hood which was bought directly from them should be with me tomorrow/ Tuesday. Fingers crossed that it will be a true black one this time 😂 I’ll post my result here later.

When I saw it at B&H, I was immediately impressed with the quality, to the extent that I thought it was “worth it” (initally not) and decided to go for it. The fit and finish, the quality of the screw fit is a thing of beauty like most things Leica. (The brass one was even nicer bit noticeably heavier and I didn't like the mismatch of color re: camera) Two points: I had thought the round hood might look wierd in other posters’ photos, but in person it looks very similar to the original square when the lens cap is installed: a cylindrical end to the lens that looks nearly identical. As I mostly see the camera with the cap installed, this is a non-issue. When I remove the cap to shoot, admittedly the square looks different. However, I’ve come around to preferring the look of the round as it matches the rounded contours of the body and lens. As you, said it is individual preference. Secondly, the round works well with using the circular polarizer. I can rotate it easily without fingerprinting the filter.I don’t believe that would be the case with the square. That’s important to me.

Shortage was $70 and K&F was $18 - I can ‘just’ about rotate the filter with the Hoage hood, but it’s not as easy. While on the PolarPro website, I noticed they have a Flip Hood for the Q3, which makes turning the filter easier. But I’m unsure if it’s for the Q343, or just the Q328. - see link. https://www.polarpro.com/products/leica-q3-accessories I digress; when using a CPL, can I use the histogram to find the strongest polarising effect, or is it really only down to the light/sun direction? C. The round hood makes it easy for my fingers to feel oriented inside the round hood to turn the filter (without smudging the filter). I suspect this would be harder or impossible with the non-round squarish hood. To use it, I am looking through the evf and easily see the sky get darker and specular reflections vanish etc. as I rotate the filter. It is fun/interesting with water as you can see the underwater features suddenly appear as you rotate it and the specular reflections vanish. Works just like holding the filter in your hand.

C. My square Haoge hood was purchased directly from them and just arrived a couple of days ago. While the black finish is close, it is a “cooler” black than the Q3 43 lens. Very close but not an exact match. By contrast, my round Haoge lens hood is a perfect match and allows manipulation of my polarizing filter more easily than the square hood. I just wish I liked the look of a round, ventilated hood on the Q cameras better. They both work well and the square one accepts my Otect lens cap, which is the best news of all. classba Posted December 9, 2024 Share #91 Posted December 9, 2024 My Haoge hood arrived today and I can say that the black color is far better than the one I purchased from Amazon UK which had a obvious blue tint to it. The black color is NOT a 100% match to that of Leica's original hood but I can live with this one at least.

classba Posted December 10, 2024 Share #93 Posted December 10, 2024 Lol Chris.... I'm staying put No more buying hoods. In regards to taking great photos, the Q3/43 is my 1st Leica ever because I wanted a daily carry when I'm out with family and don't want to lumber my Nikon's and to be fair, I'm liking the end results from the Q3/43 so far. I'am finding myself having to under expose most of the time to bring out the nice shadows and rich tones which makes the Leica look kind of unique if that makes sense. Welcome, dear visitor! Cogito Posted December 12, 2024 Share #97 Posted December 12, 2024 Hoage hood arrived in 14 days direct from China. If anyone’s interested, the Elevation Labs AirTag tagvault now fits under the lens cap without hitting the lens, hood, or a filter (when affixed.) Hoage hood doesn’t look like it’ll do as good a job minimizing flare since it doesn’t have the integrated hard matte like the oem Leica hood. If I find that to be the case I may return to the Leica lens hood since the ND filter I have fits under it and I haven’t yet used an ND and macro at the same time.
Cogito Posted December 13, 2024 Share #98 Posted December 13, 2024 obviously not a Q, but this is a detail of a photograph of Anthony Friedkin (by photographer Stacy Suaya) that landed in my email this morning. first time I liked the look (and see the usefulness) of a vented round lens hood (probably because it’s been dented out of round.) loalposo Posted December 16, 2024 Share #99 Posted December 16, 2024 I noticed PolarPro released a magnetic flip down hood which should work with the Q3 43 when using filters, and for those wanting to keep the original filter form factor. Glad to see third party manufacturers are throwing their hat in the ring with their solutions to the Q3 43 hood/filter issue. https://www.polarpro.com/products/leica-q3-accessories?variant=44636244148409
