ChrisQ3 Posted September 28 Share #1 Posted September 28 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have watched a couple of YouTube videos, where they state users are unable to fit a filter to the new Q3 43 lens? Is this true? I have the original Q3 which uses E-49 filters… If I couldn’t fit a filter to the Q3 43 lens, this, for me would be an issue. Anyone got a Q3 43, who could confirm please? Thanks. C. Advertisement Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Hi ChrisQ3, Take a look here Leica Q3 43 Filter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
micheldesvaux Posted September 28 Share #2 Posted September 28 there is another topic about filter with Q3
ChrisQ3 Posted September 28 Author Share #3 Posted September 28 Thanks Michel, I couldn’t see anything, I’ll take another look!
ChrisQ3 Posted September 28 Author Share #4 Posted September 28 Found it, thank you!
jgeenen Posted September 28 Share #5 Posted September 28 This seems to be only a limitation if you want to use the macro-mode, a filter, and the lens hood combined. The filter thread is the ordinary E49 one.
algrove Posted September 28 Share #6 Posted September 28 (edited) It takes the e49 filter just like the Q3 28. Take off hood which screws on outside of lens and screw in filter which screws on the inside of lens after removing the e49 dummy ring if I recall correctly. Or is the dummy ring for use without lens hood. Can't remember. Edited September 28 by algrove
ChrisQ3 Posted September 28 Author Share #7 Posted September 28 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you! I was told you can’t fit a filter under the lens hood, nor will the macro ring turn when the filter and hood are fitted… I can do this on the Q3 28mm, but would want to do the same with the Q3 43… Thanks again. egrossman Posted September 28 Share #8 Posted September 28 They made the hood shorter on the 43 to keep it the same length as the 28. A case of form over function. Replace the hood with the optional ventilated hood like I posted in a separate thread and you can use any filter. Erik

You were told correctly - frustrating design flaw. You can use the round hood, but you'll pay another $230.
ChrisQ3 Posted September 29 Author Share #10 Posted September 29 Oh, ok, that’s interesting… Wow, it’s so much more than I paid for the Q3 28. I need the thumb grip and hand grip - now a vented lens hood! Thanks for your help.

So, if I move my UV filter from the Q3 to the Q3 43, I need to buy the round lens hood PLUS a new lens cap for this hood? But this is only in macro mode-it will still work with rectangular hood plus filter but only in non macro mode? Do I understand the current opinion about this? I have not seen a lens cap for this the round hood - what are my options for this?

SJH Posted September 30 Share #13 Posted September 30 I do a fair amount of Macro work with my Q's so this situation is very frustrating for me!! the B+W 007 filter works in normal mode with he hood that I referred to above but not in Macro mode. I've been in touch with Leica this morning (I've liaised on a number of things in the past) so I'll let you know the result. At the moment it seems extraordinary that they didn't test it but then we all had the same issue for those of us who bought the Steel Rim i.e. they had to change the hood design and ship them all out. Can I suggest that the original OP @ChrisQ3 and the admins @LUF Admin change the title to 'Q3 42 Filter issue' as I think it's important that buyers of the camera are aware at this stage and that it's been reported to Leica. Copying in @jonoslack so he's aware to.

I have the Heliopan 49mm UV SH-PMC Filter on my Q3. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/302204-REG/Heliopan_704911_49mm_UV_Haze_SH_PMC.html/?ap=y&smp=y&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7yMh2PhAvx-La3XMTT75BpA-nNr&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmOm3BhC8ARIsAOSbapXRsmrFYIByViNSeSjZDLdAGmAQaitjoSO8jxnpsCW8RnsIFbb1PmoaAoN2EALw_wcB Will this fit with the rectangular lens hood on the Q3 43? In regular, or macro or both? I guess I shouldn't assume because your B+W filter works in normal mode, it will work with my Heliopan? Correct? I wish someone with the new Q could test this. Yes, I think the title should be something like "Q3 43 Filter Compatibility Problem"

Yes, I think the title should be something like "Q3 43 Filter Compatibility Problem" Well I think the issue I found so far is that the B+W 007 filter is super slim, so I think you’ll find that if the Heliopan has ‘normal’ filter dimensions then it won’t a) work with the hood b) macro mode.

Just received the B+W 007 Clear filter yesterday and it DOES block the macro mode as well. Works fine in normal mode with the original hood. I still hope, that Leica will offer a „longer“ Q3 28 size hood, with sits right on the Q3 43. I know I could use the ventilated round hood, but I‘m a fan of the rectangular hood style.

Schoeniman Posted October 21 Share #18 Posted October 21 Got it, but I simply prefer the square look…
coolwindsg Posted October 31 Share #19 Posted October 31 A good news. I just bought a Haoge lens hood specially made for Q3 43. They solve the problem perfectly. The hood is slightly higher than the original Leica one. It can easily use for macro mode or uv filter. Here is a photo for comparison. Welcome, dear visitor!
