JoshuaR Posted September 20, 2024 Share #1  Posted September 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 50mm Summilux ASPH has been more or less living on my SL2-S. I’ve been using the camera for sports and other telephoto stuff, but actually enjoy it the most with the 50 Lux—somehow the lens just fits perfectly on the camera, turning it into a kind of high-tech M3. Manually focusing through the EVF is a breeze even wide open. What I’d really love is a 24mm to complete the setup. I really enjoy 24mm, but haven’t shot it for a while because I’ve been only using M cameras, on which I tend to shoot 28mm and 50mm as a pair. Now that I have an SL camera, I think putting together a 24mm + 50mm pair sounds perfect. I know about the Sigma 24mm lenses, but I think I’d prefer a manual-focus lens to pair with the 50 Lux. I know very little about the various M-mount 24mm lenses. How well do they work on the SL2-S? Are there any lenses in particular that would pair well with a 50 Lux ASPH? I’m open to anything from any maker—and size doesn’t matter too much to me on the SL2-S. Many thanks for any insights.

Paul K Posted September 20, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted September 20, 2024 Just did a quick search on B&H, and it looks like you're pretty limited in terms of currently available options:Â https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=leica 24mm&sts=ma Might find some answers here, too:Â Â
Chuck Albertson Posted September 20, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted September 20, 2024 I shoot the excellent Elmarit-M f/2.8 on the SL and SL2-S. Only available used, as it was discontinued several years ago.

Do you find that it's okay in the corners, and in terms of color cast, etc.?
jaapv Posted September 20, 2024 Share #5  Posted September 20, 2024 The Elmar is described by Erwin Puts as one of the best lenses Leica ever built and the Elmarit is not far behind  My favourite is the Summilux 24 M for its rendering. No problems at all on the SL or the S5ii.

I couldn't tell you anything about color cast. That said, I'm waiting for the long-promised 24 SLAPO.
MrFriendly Posted September 21, 2024 Share #7  Posted September 21, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have both the Elmar-M 24mm f/3.8 and the Summilux-M 24mm, and I shoot them both on my M and SL cameras. You can't go wrong with either; however, the Elmar is easier to focus because it has the focus tab. The Elmar is also the smallest of the three 24mm M lenses, the other being the Elmarit 24mm f/2.8. Judging by the MTF charts, the Elmar has less distortion and performs slightly better than the Elmarit, but if you need a brighter lens then it's either the Elmarit or the Summilux. The main reason to get the 24 Summilux is to shoot it wide open to get that nice bokeh. I really wish Leica would release compact Elmar or Elmarit prime lenses for the SL system.
Tpau17 Posted September 21, 2024 Share #8  Posted September 21, 2024 another interesting lens (outside of Leica but inside of the M-mount):  Zeiss Biogon T* 2,8/25 ZM... it's a great lense and work with the SL (I use it with the 18771-adapter) without any problems and with great results.

helged Posted October 18, 2024 Share #10 Â Posted October 18, 2024 A highly underrated lens is Sigma 24mm DG DN f3.5 in L-mount. This lens is tiny and low-weight, and it has a price tag well below Leica lenses. You can use this lens fully manual (both aperture and focus). Its optical performance is great; its colour rendering is also very good.
