egrossman Posted September 17, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received my M11-D and this is my first black M camera with the new black coating on aluminum, which feels different to the touch than the black coated brass of my M10-M. I use gaffers tape above the lugs to prevent shine on the case with the Monochrom and I was wondering how the M11 finish wears and if I should do the same for the M10-D? Thanks Erik
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Hi egrossman, Take a look here M11 black wear. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RF’sDelight Posted September 17, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2024 I think it feels inferior to the BP and real chrome Ms. And I’m curious how this paint will generally wear in the future.
egrossman Posted September 18, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted September 18, 2024 I would have to agree with you in that I also prefer the finish of the black chrome as well.
RobW0 Posted September 18, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2024 I like the feel of the new paint (I have M11-P and M11-M). That is nothing against the BP which I have on my MP. I think it will wear well also.
elmars Posted September 18, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2024 I think the new black paint is great. It has much more grip than the previous surfaces, so it's easier to handle the camera. And it's the most resistant colour I know (not just on M cameras, but ever). We probably don't need to worry about durability, it comes from the military sector. 3

Is the turnover in this sector the reason of the development?
marchyman Posted September 18, 2024 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The strap on my M11 has leather protectors. Either the protectors work, the paint is very strong, or some combination of the two. No marks after 18 months of use. I am assuming the D has the same finish. Welcome, dear visitor! CaseyS Posted September 19, 2024 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2024 After two years, my black M11 shows no wear. The black brass thumbs-up attached is showing some nice brass. 2
Photoworks Posted September 21, 2024 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2024 The black of the M11 is fantastic. I have the camera in daily carry since it camera out. much more durable than the M10 finish. The only signs of wear are on the ISO dial and on-off switch, and they are made of brass. Gaffer tape is a bad idea, it turns bad when drying out. That said I use the 3M mounting tape for the thumbie, and I had to remove it once to send in the camera for inspection, and the surface is clean with no signs. Welcome, dear visitor! blaaberkat Posted September 25, 2024 Share #10 Posted September 25, 2024 Like the above, my M11 also shows a nice wear on the ISO dial, looks quite the same actually. And that’s it, no other signs of use. And that’s after 1 1/2 year of almost daily use. I prefer the new black paint with the M11. To me it feels premium!
