bscott Posted December 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you believe that this is a good price if I can purchase a new M7 with 3 year warranty for 2300.00 us from a camera store? Also I'm not sure of the use a film camera in the near future since so many are using dig, equipment, It would be helpful in making my decision to read your comments. Thanks, Happy Holidays

j. white Posted December 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2007 Hello Bill, I would call that a good deal for a new M7 - "them's 2001 prices!" <g> Of course the decision to pick it up or not depends on whether *you* want to shoot film in the future, moreso than the consensus of any group here or elsewhere. Happy shooting however you go. -J.

Thanks, Happy Holidays I find it is a good price for a good camera. Take it! I purchased in 2007 also a M7, I did'nt regret it! Allways, when I have the camera with me for one, two or three well thought-out Pictures, I feel very proud and happy. Beside this 'filmcamera' I use a DSLR for other kinds of pictures but especially for an other way of taking pictures, which I enjoy more and more! I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year! peter_n Posted December 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2007 Bill if this is an authorized Leica dealer (check with Leica) then this is an excellent price. I did the same for $2275 two years ago and the camera has been perfect. Check that the dealer is authorized to sell Leica and that the warranty is US Passport. When you get the cam read all the requirements & fill-in the warranty and mail to Leica in NJ. You will love the camera! Film will be around for a long, long time!! Angora Posted December 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted December 25, 2007 Isn't it 5 years warranty now?
xjr Posted December 26, 2007 Share #7 Posted December 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) 2300 $ ?? If so a bargain provided the camera is boxed and from an authorised dealer. The warranty now should be 5 years. What is the number on the body ? That would indicate the improved rangefinder or not. bscott Posted December 27, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted December 27, 2007 Well it is new but has been on display and it comes with a passport warranty for three years but for another 175.00 it can be extended to five years. I don't believe it has the updated finder. They have one that has never been on display but they will not sell at this price. Is this still a good deal? I really need something to push me over the edge to purchase. I keep talking myself out of it. You know all the reasons not to buy. Actually one of the salesmen at the store stated that he would not pay over 50.00 for any film camera that didn't help. Thanks again.

That salesman just wants to buy it himself and or wants to sell you something he make a commission on. At that stated price the store is maybe breaking even and he won't see a time for the sale. But you have to ask yourself Do I Need Another Leica Film M, and does it have to be a M7. At that cost I might of even bought it and then wondered what the ^&$# am I going to do with it, I already have X# of M film bodies and X# of M digital bodies. Oh well I got it at a good price. Good luck and whatever you decide it will be the correct choice.
peter_n Posted December 27, 2007 Share #11 Posted December 27, 2007 FWIW once you have an M7 with a US Passport warranty and the old finder Leica NJ will replace the VF with the MP style one for free under the warranty. They did that for me earlier this year.
bill Posted December 27, 2007 Share #12 Posted December 27, 2007 Gaah! Just BUY the blasted thing, if you can; a) Afford it, Use it, and you won't; c) Hurt anyone by doing so. It's a camera, not a life-changing decision! Regards, Bill
leicapages Posted December 29, 2007 Share #13 Posted December 29, 2007 I wouldn't bother too much about what others think in terms of film vs digital. This year I bought three more film-based cameras (new)... enough said :-)
