martin_horne Posted September 16, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone. I've inherited one of these in realy good condition and would like get a lens and use it. Narrowed it down to the 18mm pancake or the 35mm. Like the idea of the Elmarit as it looks like pocketable. Any suggestions or recomendations? - both seem really hard to find in silver and they both seem pretty expensive ten years on. I've also noticed that there is no option for the T in Fotos - has anybody succesfully got it working - do you just use the TL2 icon? Many thanks for reading - any help or advice gratefully received! Advertisement Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Hi martin_horne, Take a look here Leica T Silver. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NigelG Posted September 16, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2024 (edited) If you can still get it - there was a dedicated TL app - I have it on my phone but only as I transferred it from a long-ago version. I’m not sure if the TL2 button works in fotos as the feature set is a bit different (will try it at some point as I have both versions) but the TL app works IIRC with the original T. wda Posted September 16, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2024 (edited) Regarding your first post, can you tell us more about your photographic interests and whether you have any other lenses? If a smartphone camera is the basis of your existing photography, the 18mm pancake lens will provide you with a similar experience. Both equate to 28mm or thereabouts You might like to consider a lens which differs in focal length. Consider also an L-mount lens by Sigma or Panasonic. I only have experience of Sigma in L -mount and can recommend them most strongly. But first, tell us a bit more about your experience, Martin. tommonego@gmail.com Posted September 17, 2024 Share #7 Posted September 17, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Remember with the TL, it has a cropped sensor, so the 18 is equivalent to a 27mm lens and the 35 a 52mm lens on full frame. The best TL/CL lenses are the 35 and 60, the wide 11-23mm and tele 55-135 zooms are quite good, the 23mm isn't bad either. The 18mm and 18-56mm lenses are the lesser of the TL/CL lenses, but lots of folks like them. The chome vesions of the lenses are rare, since Leica is going to cease service for the TL/CL in a few years I don't look at my L mount lenses as an investment, if you want Leica lenses as an investment (not a great way to look at them) buy M or SL lenses ( the former are compact, the latter huge). I like my 35 Summilux M on my CL, much smaller and compact than even the 35 TL. If you are looking for a pocketable camera, the 18 is your choice, the 23 marginal. I beleive FOTOS was brought out after the T was discontinued. With my CL I used it for a while but it just resides on my phone now. It is painfully slow to transfer files, use a card reader. As a remote release it changed too many settings on my CL, mostly switching to program mode from manual mode. With newer cameras it seems to be more useful. martin_horne Posted September 18, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted September 18, 2024 Thanks for the responses. I found a silver 18mm in Leica Berlin which should get me started. I’ve also managed to solve the Fotos conundrum too. In Fotos you select the option for TL2 and it gives you options for the T, TL AND TL2. Works well and linked up quickly. Slightly counterintuitive but there you go!
