bulk70 Posted September 10, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear All, Your advice needed. I am considering to give back my M6 to buy a used M 240. Do not shoot on film any more. Does it make any sense or I should keep M6 just for its future value? Thanks and best regards.

Gregm61 Posted September 10, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2024 Your M6, depending on condition, is probably worth more today than it’s ever been. Trading in will get you, at best, 70% of its market value towards another camera or lens. That’s approximately what you’d get at Leica Store Miami. Anywhere else, who knows. I’d just be careful where you plan to trade. Selling it yourself will maximize your money, but you may have to wait for that right buyer. After that, depends on how much else you’re going to spend over the sales/trade-in funds as to whether an M240 or newer model makes the most sense.

I would like to spend no more than what I get from selling in the M6.
strangeboy Posted September 10, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2024 If you're done shooting film, sell the M6. As was already stated, trading it in at KEH or Adorama, etc., you'll definitely get low-balled. Selling it yourself takes longer, but you'll get a much better price - depending on the condition. darylgo Posted September 11, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2024 The M240 bodies are increasing in price. If you sell your M6 on your own you may get an even trade, depending on the condition of each.
obohlman Posted September 24, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 24, 2024 2 years ago, I was in the same situation...ending up selling my M6 and a week later, buying an M262. While I do really enjoy my M262, the colors and character of the images are amazing... within 6 months, I started to really miss my M6 and will be buying another one in the not-to-distant future. (Also now considering an M10-R, M11 or M11-P. for the better high ISO performance but will try to hold on to the 262 for the character of the images.) If your finances will allow for it, hold on to your M6 for 6 months after getting a 240 (or consider the 262 if you are OK without Live View and don't intend on shooting any video) and then decide if you really want to sell it. Good luck!
