SJH Posted September 8, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted September 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Overall I'm very pleased with my D-Lux 8 but here are two further issues which are proving to be a right pain as follows: 1. Unlike the LX100 II it appears that the D-Lux 8 has no 'sleep' function ie if the screen and power are set to auto off after 2 mins, the camera completely shuts down. All my other Leica's (SL3, Q3, M11's) you can wake from sleep by pressing the shutter button lightly and you're ready to shoot, with the 8 you have to start the camera up again. 2. Say you've selected Profile 1 and that has NAT JPEG's selected (how you set it up) and then you want B&W HC by selecting in the front menu, once the camera auto power's off (after say 2 mins - default setting) when you restart the camera it goes back to NAT JPEG's. Again my other Leica's will just leave the camera in the settings you had when you powered off or it went into auto sleep mode and you 'wake' it up. Equally you can then just select Profile again and it all goes back to how it was under that profile. Anybody found a way round this as there doesn't seem to be anything in the manual? SJH Posted September 10, 2024 Author Share #2  Posted September 10, 2024 The more I use the 8 the more irritating the lack of a 'sleep' function compared to my other Leica camera's (and wake from sleep by tapping the shutter button) becomes. Here we have a really great pocketable camera that switches off when you're walking round a city and want to bring to your eye and shoot there and then. Just seems really daft for a camera of this type (or camera's generally I guess!!). I looked it up in the online manual for the LX100 II and it confirms the function is available so why didn't Leica include such a fundamental feature which exists on all their other current camera's and the the one the 8 is based on: For details on how to select the [Setup] menu settings, refer to [Sleep Mode] The camera automatically turns off if no operation is performed for a preset period of time. • To restore → Press the shutter button halfway, or turn on the power again. Settings: [10MIN.] / [5MIN.] / [2MIN.] / [1MIN.] / [OFF
SJH Posted September 10, 2024 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 10, 2024 Equally under many 'hints and tips' this feature appears regularly with summaries such as this: Economy These settings will determine the way the camera handles inactivity on your part to save battery life. Sleep Mode:Â The camera is automatically turned off if the camera has not been used for the time selected on the setting. Sleep Mode(Wi-Fi):Â The camera is automatically turned off if it is not connected to a Wi-Fi network and has not been used for 15 minutes ( Auto LVF/ Monitor Off:Â The monitor/viewfinder is automatically turned off if the camera has not been used for the time selected on the setting. Power Save LVF Shooting:Â If you display the monitor using the viewfinder/monitor automatic switching function, the camera will turn off automatically after being left idle. rsolomon Posted November 2, 2024 Share #4  Posted November 2, 2024 I agree , a sleep mode would ( I presume) allow the battery life last considerably longer…. This must be  doable as it’s already been done on this cameras platform.  This would have huge impact to my usability. Recharging at lunch time is a drag.
rsolomon Posted November 3, 2024 Share #5  Posted November 3, 2024 Update: I’ve allowed the battery to totally drain on first 2 outings. On third recharge I seem to be getting measurably better battery performance….  I do use the fotos only at certain intervals, example while taking a cafe break mid afternoon….
prymsnap Posted November 3, 2024 Share #6 Â Posted November 3, 2024 That was my experience as well. The first battery cycle seemed to die quickly, but subsequent cycles were much better.
