deekay Posted September 8, 2024 Share #1  Posted September 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I fear I'm being stupid. I bought one of these straps but can't figure out how to attach it to the linear shaped connector on the SL3, with the associated leather protector. It seems as though this strap won't work on the SLs although it will work on the Ms. Am I missing something? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Hi deekay, Take a look here Oberwerth Triberg strap on the SL3?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted September 11, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted September 11, 2024 Yeah, that's the wrong type of connector. As you mentioned, that works on a Leica M camera for example. You need a strap with a web-end connector. Didn't your SL3 include one?

Jeff S Posted September 11, 2024 Share #4  Posted September 11, 2024 Connector like this works… https://leicastoremiami.com/products/leica-s-camera-strap?variant=345677243  I prefer using a Peak Design strap (Leash or Slide Lite) on my SL2, attached via their small anchors.  With the large SL zooms, I attach one anchor to a camera lug and the other to the tiny provided base plate. This allows the camera/lens to sit flat against hip or back when carrying over the shoulder or cross-body.  The strap is easily removable and adjustable for length. deekay Posted September 11, 2024 Author Share #5 Â Posted September 11, 2024 Got it; I was thinking that the previous post was suggesting a way of being able to use the Oberwerth strap with some form of connector. Anyway, hopefully some people will be aware that this strap does not work on the SL3 which is a pity because it's a beautiful strap and it's annoying that their website lists it as an SL3 accessory. But they accept returns.

You may want to check out the strap specifically designed for the SL, SL2 and SL3 by Harry Benz. He made me one for my SL2 and I am most happy with it. The "hinge" design is simply ingenious and works exactly as described: no twisting of the strap. The model is the Brogue. Harry Benz is in Toronto Canada. Check out:Â https://www.harrybenz.com/shop Once installed, it is not easy to remove should you want to switch between strapped and unstrapped ways of carrying your camera. I personally never removed a strap from any camera whether hand-held or on a tripod. Artists and Artisans, and Peak designs seem to have straps made to fit the SL type of lug. Blackrapid also has straps that work well with heavier cameras. I had one for my Canon cameras at the time, and my spouse's has one designed for women. In Canada, those may be obtained via Vistek. I can see how that would be misleading. The ad is specifically for SL3 camera bags, while the strap shown is actually attached to a different camera, and just happens to appear in the pic showing the bag.  They then list the strap at the end in case anyone wants info on the model, even though it’s an ancillary accessory that has nothing to do with the bags… or to the SL3. FlashGordonPhotography Posted September 11, 2024 Share #13 Â Posted September 11, 2024 It's very easy to make a short adaptor with some appropriate webbing. I'd probably have a hundred old cheap straps with webbing ends I could sacrifice to make something up. Just got to think outside the box. I personally never removed a strap from any camera whether hand-held or on a tripod.   I didn’t like my Benz SL2 strap, and sold it to a forum member.  No wonder it’s tough to remove; it requires that users apply Loctite to make it work properly. Hardly ingenious IMO. When attaching mine, my fingers turned black from residue on the leather connectors (Harry and I discussed). Most importantly, though, the PD Leash I discussed above did a far better job pivoting the camera and lens to sit flat against hip or back.  And even if one never removes it, the length is easily adjustable to accommodate different clothing or carrying method, e.g., over shoulder or cross body. Well made and a small fraction of the cost. Diff’rent strokes…. Jeff
deekay Posted September 18, 2024 Author Share #15 Â Posted September 18, 2024 Further investigation of this topic has led me to realize that Leica released a nice looking simple strap (made from elk...) earlier this year. But they've subsequently withdrawn it from the market due to "technical/quality" reasons (personal communication from a Leica store salesperson). Jeff After reading reviews, I decided to experiment with the PGYTech 1.8 inch strap to replace my PD strap.  It has a nicer, wider shoulder pad than the PD Leash or Slide Lite, but tapers at the ends, unlike the wider PD Slide, to ease handling and storage.  I’ve liked most everything about the PD straps, except the lack of shoulder/neck support after carrying for a while. The PGYT uses similar anchor attachments, and even includes a small base plate like the PD to accommodate my preferred attachment method with the big SL 24-90. The plate also allows the camera to sit with more stability than the PD plate. The length is also easily adjustable like the PD.  Still early stages of ownership, but so far so good. The build quality seems robust.  And reasonably priced at $46. Jeff Edited September 29, 2024 by Jeff S
deekay Posted September 30, 2024 Author Share #17 Â Posted September 30, 2024 That does look like a decent strap. Along the line of minimalist leather Oberwerth type straps, I recently discovered Rock n Roll straps, which look nice.
