Kent10D Posted December 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The idea for this thread popped up in the "I Love My M6!" thread, but since the subject is not limited to the M6, I thought an independent thread would be appropriate. Purpose: to list enough reasons that a second film body is "necessary" that there's no excuse for not buying one. I'll start: 1. Backup in case of functional problems (this one is obvious). 2. The ability to keep different types of film in each, whether it's B&W and color or different ISO. 3. Different lenses on each body so you can switch focal lengths in an instant. 4. Having a black one and a chrome one just makes good fashion sense. 5. I want another one. Anything else?

frc Posted December 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 18, 2007 One indestructable MP fitted with a tri-e ( not W ) and a lux 35 in the pocket for when conditions worsen. What more can I wish? Uhhh, yes film!
ErikFive Posted December 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2007 All the other kids has two. Two is closer to ten. Two is over halfway to three which is the magic number. Different VF´s You try to be more international so you want one from Canada and one from Deutschland. You want to see if a baseplate from another M will fit the one you have right now. j. white Posted December 18, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 18, 2007 Insert facetious comment here << Cannot decide which colour you prefer for your Luigi case - get all of them. >> End facetiousness There is really no need for rationalizing this, is there? Kent10D Posted December 18, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted December 18, 2007 There is really no need for rationalizing this, is there? Not for the M owner. Of course not. But it can be handy to have a watertight case when explaining the "absolute need" for these things to, you know, "other people," if you catch my drift. I really like that one, and will add it to my list! (Why didn't I think of that?!)

earleygallery Posted December 19, 2007 Share #9 Posted December 19, 2007 Because you can. So that you don't wear the other one out. Because you're worth it. To give an unloved Leica a good home.
peter_n Posted December 19, 2007 Share #10 Posted December 19, 2007 I use two identical cameras, a 0.72x and a 0.85x. The 0.72 gets 24, 28 or 35mm lenses, the 0.85x gets the 50, 75 or 90mm lenses. I always use the same speed film in both, almost always B&W, rarely color.
john_newell Posted December 19, 2007 Share #11 Posted December 19, 2007 There is a very rational justification for two different magnification viewfinders if you use lenses over the 28-90 range.

flavio Posted December 19, 2007 Share #13 Posted December 19, 2007 Because you can. ...To give an unloved Leica a good home. Umh. This is a very good reason. I used the same with (now) our dwarf rabbit.
Perspectics Posted December 19, 2007 Share #14 Posted December 19, 2007 There is a very rational justification for two different magnification viewfinders if you use lenses over the 28-90 range. Loupe is cheaper than a second body with different magnification... Also, M8 users have no choice there.
dlove5 Posted December 19, 2007 Share #15 Posted December 19, 2007 Every Leica lens needs a good rear lens cap. Regular rear lens caps are easier to lose.

Rolo Posted December 19, 2007 Share #17 Posted December 19, 2007 To keep film on hand whilst waiting for an opportunity to change roll. On assignment, once I get past 30 exposures I'm ready to rewind the film at the earliest opportunity, so I'll switch lenses if need be and slow down shooting if I have to to preserve film for a big shot. Occasionally, I've had to swap again because the opportunity to reload hasn't arisen. Rolo

budrichard Posted December 19, 2007 Share #19 Posted December 19, 2007 When working as a Photojournalist or Wedding Photographer I always alternated between bodies (not every shot) to make sure I get something. It may not be immediately obvious that there is a problem with a particular camera , exposure or whatever or later in processing there may be a problem, I learned an old adage in Newspaper photography, 'Always come back with something!'.-Dick
Kent10D Posted December 19, 2007 Author Share #20 Posted December 19, 2007 Some great ideas here. So inspiring that I thought of another one! If you don't have a second body how are you going to take a "proper" picture of the first one?
