Heathom Posted August 22, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi , did anyone on here purchase either the Kamerakraft or IDS grips ? I'm wondering if they had any weather sealing on the battery door, the one thing about a solid plate is it helps prevent water ingress into a vital area off the camera so a bit nervous about going down that route . Advertisement Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Hi Heathom, Take a look here IDSworks or Kamerakraft M10 grip battery door weather sealing ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
edwardpychan Posted August 22, 2024 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2024 I was curious about the same thing when I was considering grips for my M11. From what I've seen, the IDSworks grip has a clever design that lets you access the battery release without opening the rubber flaps, which should help keep water and dust out. But I couldn't find any specific info on weather sealing for either the Kamerakraft or IDS grips.
rsh Posted August 22, 2024 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2024 I use the IDS grips on my M10-P and M10-M and I do like the convenience for battery changes. The battery doors are not weather sealed but neither are the cameras. It does not concern me as I do not use the M’s during inclement weather.

I was thinking of getting the LITE version for my M10-P
rsh Posted August 23, 2024 Share #5 Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) Yes, I did purchase the Lite versions. As far as the finish on the grips is concerned, they are not a perfect match to the Silver Chrome and Black Chrome M’s but they are close enough for my tastes. Other than what I have indicated in my posts, I cannot advise you further. FYI, I have had the M10-P (partially upgraded from the M10) since February of 2017 and the M10-M since February of 2020. Both have served me well. I have been tempted to upgrade to the M11-P but the cost differential after selling is too great for my tastes. I was thinking of getting the LITE version for my M10-P I have both the regular IDS grip and the Lite version. The regular one is too big to fit in a peak design travel tripod (it won't lock). The Lite fits fine. The battery door on the regular is pretty secure (even moreso when you have the extra plate for tripods attached. On the Lite version, it is easier to accidentally open the door (something that is virtually impossible to do with the regular version). Both have nice places to hide an extra card\ (just put one there and forget about it). All-in-all - i'd recommend the lite version - the regular not fitting in my travel tripod is a bummer.

Thanks that’s really good to know , how easily does the battery door open on the Lite version , enough to be annoying ?

I only got an M10-p recently , up grading from the MP-240 , I could’ve got the M10r for a similar price but wasn’t interested in extra resolution and not bothered about the increase in dynamic range . I also shoot with Canon R5 and GFX50r so resolution and dynamic range are in abundance if needed Edited August 29, 2024 by Heathom

Heathom Posted August 30, 2024 Author Share #10 Posted August 30, 2024 Well I’ve ordered one now so will wait and see . Looks like Kamerkraft have stopped making M10 grips 😬
zanydave Posted August 30, 2024 Share #11 Posted August 30, 2024 I have the lite version on my M10m. No issues with the battery door on mine. Feels very secure.
vincentb Posted September 17, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 17, 2024 Hey! Indeed I stopped making M10 grips for some time, having other projects on the go (M11 grip, or modular film winder, anyone?). But just for your reference, the Kamerakraft LM10 grips are weather sealed. I am using compressed EPDM gaskets. Weathersealing is not an issue... until it is! I wouldn't take my M10 in a dusty or wet environment without appropriate sealings... Once moisture or dusts gets in the electric contacts, who knows what happens... The original Leica baseplate has similar sealings as the one I make on my grips. I think there is a reason Leica made these... But at least IDS grips are in stock, I knooow
