Hey, I have encountered a very strange issue and hopefully someone on here can help me resolve it. I recently bought a M2, when I put my 50 lux on it, it focuses fine down to 0.7m. When I put my 35 lux FLE mk1 on the M2, it focuses down to 1m and then the focusing patch stops working between 1m and 0.7m. Both lenses work fine on my MP and other lenses work fine and focus down to 0.7m on the M2. Does anyone have any idea why just my 35mm isnt fully working on the M2 and is there a way to resolve this?

I don’t have either of your lenses. In the same focal lengths I have 50 Summicron and 35 Summaron. No issues with both focusing to 0.7m on my M2.

The closer one focuses on an M, the more the rangefinder actuator wheel (roller cam) moves outwards (towards the lens). It seems something in the FLE is obstructing this outward movement.

When you mount the FLE, after the lens locking tab drops into place, try twisting the lens gently back and forth to see if it seats a little more. I find this does settle the lens into the mount with my Summaron. The small interference, if any, could be affected the rangefinder throw.

Good luck!

I asked a shop I know with both M2's and FLE's to test them and they report that they work fine so the issue is something on my end. It is just so strange as the FLE works fine on other M bodies and other lenses work fine on the M2.

I tried the 35mm Summilux FLE (1. version) with the M2 - and it focussed without problems to 0.7m.

You might try your combination with the camera's back door and the shutter opened on "B" and look if the small wheel to activate the rangefinder moves the whole way from infinity to 0.7m or if it sticks anywhere on this way.

There is a roll of film in it at the moment but I will try that when this is done. It is strange because I can focus to 0.7m with all my other lenses on the body. Can M lenses/bodies be calibrated differently?

The short answer is yes, absolutely. A lens that is at one end of the “in specification” range may not operate properly with a body that is at the opposite end of the “in specification” range.

In essence, the combination of body and lens, whilst in specification individually, produces out of specification when the two are combined. It is possible that your other lenses that work properly with your M2 are simply within a specification range that doesn’t compound the variation in the wrong direction.

It may be possible to adjust your FLE to operate properly with your M2, depending on the variance.
