Hello,

I would like to reach out to you because I recently purchased a second-hand Leica S 007 body from Leica, along with a 70mm CS lens.

Occasionally, I experience a strange issue: the mirror randomly locks up when I take a photo. It stays stuck for 1 or 2 seconds before coming down again, and the photos taken are black.

Has anyone else encountered this type of problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

I would write Leica in Germany asking them if (and when) your S007 has ever been serviced. Send them the serial #, they will be able to tell you. Re your particular issue with the mirror, there's a mirror-up option in the menu, maybe toggle that a couple times from off to on and off again. You can also do a camera reset (from the menu) and see if that solves your issue.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I have also noticed that the GPS barely works, even in excellent weather conditions. Additionally, when I switch to manual mode and then turn the camera off and on again, it sometimes switches back to autofocus mode. I believe there is a general malfunction with the camera. I just wrote to Leica, and they have asked me to send it in. I have informed the Leica seller as well. Let's see what happens.

Weather shouldn't be an issue (GPS frequencies aren't blocked by water vapour), but having an unobstructed view of the sky can be. Trees and buildings will slow-down the initial GPS lock. Others have mentioned that S cameras are slow to get a GPS lock in arctic and antarctic locations, because fewer GPS satellites are visible at those latitudes.

One good thing about the S is that you can keep it on all day, so you only need to get an initial GPS lock once.

I sometimes use the mirror lockup.  However, the fact that you said you have a black image tells me not enough light is getting to the sensor.  So, I'd also look at whether your exposure is set to a long period (either manually or by using automatic exposure).  It is possible that you take a metered image with the lens cap on, or high f/stop and low light, where it feels like the mirror is going up, but in reality it is taking a very long exposure.  If it is interrupted, then it could appear very dark.

So, also try editing and increase exposure a lot to see if you even have an image or just noise.

I do think it could be good to get Leica to review it and see if anything is wrong, so that's a good idea on your part.  The GPS is finicky, and can also depend on where the GPS sattelites are compared to where you are.  I have had locations where it is hard to lock, and some where it locks reasonably fast.

Hope you get this resolved!

Thank you for all your help and recommendations.

The issue occurs both in M mode and A mode. I also tried P mode, and the problem persists there as well.

I primarily shoot in M mode because it allows me to control the light and achieve the desired photographic results.

Additionally, the camera exhibits strange behavior, particularly when I attempt to customize the buttons. For example, when I set the camera to manual focus and then switch it off and back on, it reverts to autofocus
