johnwolf Posted December 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted December 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to try this lens on my 5D. Does it matter which version? I know I don't need the ROM. I assume the number of cams doesn't matter either. Â My understanding is the main mechanical difference is the shade -- built-in or not built-in. How about optical differences? Appreciate any guidance on what to look for. Thanks. Â John
Advertisement Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Hi johnwolf, Take a look here Which 50 Summicron for 5D?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
echorec Posted December 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted December 13, 2007 I have the one with built in hood and get excellent results. I have heard or read that this version is a little better than the previous one.
stunsworth Posted December 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted December 13, 2007 I've used an old one from an SL and a newer 3-cam one with built in hood. Both worked well.
zapp Posted December 13, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted December 13, 2007 If I am right there were just 2 version of the Summicron-R 50 and the current one was not changed for decades. Unless you want an double plus old lens (Orwellish) go for the latest version that performs better than the previous version and can be found anywhere at good price. johnwolf Posted December 13, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted December 13, 2007 Thanks everyone. I'll look for a relatively new one with the built-in hood. Â John
