stuny Posted December 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) These large (males can grow to nearly 20 kilos) ground birds are all over the southern tip of Africa, though I do recall seeing a different subspecies in Tanzania. They eat almost anything smaller than themselves, and even will eat carrion. This male is at a water hole in Etosha National Park in Namibia. Instead of taking water into its bill and then tilting its head back to swallow it drinks as though through a straw.
