Thanks all for your various thoughts/reflections, very helpful! Thanks also Beewee for the fantastic 21mm pictures.

In the end I decided to go for a 28mm APO:

  • Whilst 24mm (wide landscape) and 35mm (environmental portrait, situations where 50mm is a bit too tight) are more my focal lengths (i) I will likely mostly continue to use my 24-90mm (or 24mm Sigma) for most landscape situations and (ii) I have 35mm M-Summilux if I really want to be at 35mm (albeit it has quite a different rendering, it also comes in handy for low light music shots at 1.4)
  • I'd like to try 28mm again - challenging myself to work with the focal length, plus in my mind it can be so readily cropped to 35mm so I can think of it as two lenses in one (28mm and an "APO Summarit 35mm f2.5", or a "Q on steroids" 😁)
  • When I am carrying primes (rather than my zoom) I can bring the tiny Sigma 17mm or 24mm if I'm likely to need ultra wide. I'd still like a fast UWA someday for occassional astrophotography/northern lights but that is another story.
  • Last but not least I found a pretty good bargain on ebay - an APO 28mm in very good condition at a very nice price. If I decide after a few months that this was not the best decision I am unlikely to lose anything in re-sale.

The lens should arrive early next week!
