darkness30 Posted December 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2007 Marc well done. I like the color and textures. Dangerous subject indeed. Mehmet
marc_dufour Posted December 11, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted December 11, 2007 Mehmet, As a diver (and nature lover) my experience advices myself to treat carefully these small and beautiful creatures... especially the most coloured and striking ones... a pity !!! In this moment I missed the Apo-Macro 100, I left at home ;-) Thanks for your time and comments. Best regards, Marc
azzo Posted December 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2007 Lovely colours and capture Marc. I wouldn't mind knowing what creature this is. A Sangue Sughe ? Azzo
marc_dufour Posted December 11, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted December 11, 2007 It's a shame, Azzo, but I really have no idea about what it is ! Any entomologist here ? I saw it near Kinabalu Mount, in Sulawesi, Malaysia. My wife and me were looking for some Rafflesia, when we saw this lovely creature. Thanks for your time and interest. Cheers, Marc
stuny Posted December 11, 2007 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2007 Marc - What a delightful creature, lovely colors. I suggest a touch of sharpening, though. BTW: Sulawesi is part of Indonesia, though close to Malaysia. The SCUBA diving at Lembeth Straights is among the best in the world for small creatures. marc_dufour Posted December 12, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted December 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you very much, Stuart, for correct my mistake ! The picture is from Kinabalu, in the malaysian part of Borneo (Sabah), and not in Sulawesi. I confused the two islands, from two scuba diving travels, close in time. Agree with you about sharpening. Sorry, it 's the best I could do, with this lens, and without a tripod. Thanks for your time and comments, Marc
psquared Posted December 12, 2007 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2007 Wonderful colors, Marc. I wouldn't want to go near it, either. Peter

marc_dufour Posted December 12, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted December 12, 2007 Peter, Haim Thank you very much for your appreciation. This creature is possibly harmless, but with such a color code... ;-) Best, Marc
stuny Posted December 12, 2007 Share #11 Posted December 12, 2007 Marc - Our next holidays are to Borneo, and we'll be diving some of the time. Since the small creatures are similar in both areas I'll probably confuse the two soon after returning.
marc_dufour Posted December 12, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted December 12, 2007 Stuart, Where will you go and dive? Sipadan, maybe? Marine life is very different from Lembeh Straight, there. But you'll see dozens of marvellous turtles (some copulating, if you're lucky) Cheers, Marc
imported_peter_m Posted December 13, 2007 Share #13 Posted December 13, 2007 Marc, Even without the 100 macro it turned out rather nice. Looks to be a very interesting crawly creature, I love the surroundings. Peter
marc_dufour Posted December 13, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted December 13, 2007 Peter, Thank you very much for your kind comment. But, definitively, I can't leave the macro lens at home... too many lost pictures ;-) I had a look to your recent works here... You're getting great results with your new stuff !!! Both with BW and slides. As you saw, sometimes it's necessary to sharp a little, after downsizing (but never on the original file !) Before scanning, it's important to measure the white and black points, if they are, and don't touch the curves (at least with Velvia). If there isn't white or black p., better is don't touch nothing, and correct after scanning, with PS. Congrats, and enjoy your toy ! imported_peter_m Posted December 14, 2007 Share #15 Posted December 14, 2007 You are welcome Marc. Better reserve a permanent spot for the macro lens Thank you so much for commenting on my pictures..... slowly making progress I think. I am quite amazed how easy the slide film scans compared to color negative. Maybe calibrating the scanner for the film helps but I pretty well scan at the default settings and so far I only had to make slight adjustments on the levels and sometimes a slight tweak on the curve in PS. I could do the white and black points before scanning but it usually is only slight changes so far and I think using PS for that works just as well. I am surprised how little sharpening is needed on the scans even if down-sampled for web posting. That Nikon is producing much nicer scans then the small Minolta I had before.
