eawriter Posted August 5, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm going on a trip to Europe and want to take a few e39 and e46 filters. I have the hard plastic cases they came in, but don't want to use those unless there's no alternative. Have you come across a maker of soft filter pouches for filters this small? There are plenty of pouches for larger filters, and I have several, but they're twice the size of what I need for a filter like an e39. And they take up more room in my camera bag, where space is already at a premium. Any suggestions on where to find M-filter-size pouches would be appreciated. Advertisement Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 Hi eawriter, Take a look here Small Filter Pouch for e39 or e46 Filters?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pippy Posted August 5, 2024 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2024 Why not use simple small zip-lock plastic bags? They add just a milimetre or so, when packed, to the size of the filter and protect the glass surfaces assuming due care is observed. Philip.
Yoyoid Posted August 6, 2024 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2024 Maybe have a look at jewelry pouches in silk/felt/microfiber (foldover top or all-plastic snap). My travel kit has lenses of 39 and 49, so I take all 49 filters plus a 49-39 step-down ring. I screw the short stack of 49s together (to support each other) and then use metal, screw-on lens/filter caps to cover the glass ends of the stack (~$8 on Amazon; PM me if you don't find them). The result is solid metal on all sides, and it takes up zero extra space. The only reason you'd need a bag for the stack is if you want to stow the stack in a bag compartment and you were worried about damaging some other gear. If you use filters a lot, it's less convenient to unwind the stack in order to extract the particular filter you need, but it's functional and minimalist if you only use filters occasionally. Have a nice trip
raizans Posted August 6, 2024 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2024 (edited) IMO, this is a glaringly obvious unfilled need in the market. There must be a lot of rangefinder and TLR users looking for a mini filter pouch who have to settle for something too big. I asked Stone Photo Gear if they could make a custom pouch, and he can, but I think he’s too busy. I ended up finding a Hoya pouch for their 37mm “digital filter kit” that fits perfectly, but you’d have to hunt around for one or bite the bullet for filters you don’t need. Yoyoid Posted August 6, 2024 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2024 (edited) Peak Design ships little black nylon cinch bags with a lot of their small items. Deeper than ideal but those work if you're a PD customer. Edited August 6, 2024 by Yoyoid
caf Posted August 6, 2024 Share #6 Posted August 6, 2024 I use the Shimoda mini filter wrap. It has a Velcro flap that I don’t need so just cut it with scissors for a slimmer profile. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1632061-REG/shimoda_designs_520_242_mini_wrap_black.html
Sandro_m Posted August 6, 2024 Share #7 Posted August 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have searched a pouch for 39mm filters for months, then I noted they are the same size of compact flash cards. I bought a compact flash card pouch from Think Tank. I can store up to 10 filters, but they have also smaller models. It’ very fast to use. For 46mm filters I bought an extension tubes case, and I keep the filters separated by small plastic circular disks. i can send you pictures of the two systems if you want.

Premix-provost Posted August 6, 2024 Share #9 Posted August 6, 2024 I use a Lee Seven5 pouch for my E46 size filters, takes around 8 filters. Lee USA Seven5 Filter pouch.
ianforber Posted August 6, 2024 Share #10 Posted August 6, 2024 I use filter caps rather than pouches. You can get them from Urth or other companies. Screw a few filters on top of each other and then a filter cap on each end. You could put the whole stack in a pouch but I’ve never felt the need to as they’re quite happy sitting in a pocket in the bag.
250swb Posted August 6, 2024 Share #11 Posted August 6, 2024 Why does everything need to be bespoke sized when it comes to Leica? People 'need' a camera bag that can get nothing in it other than a camera and one lens, has nobody heard of wanting to put other things into it, like a bottle of water, a cleaning cloth, a map, or even an iPad? This is a bag problem and not a filter pouch problem but a simple Mindshift small pouch is adaptable for a variety of filters https://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/filter-nest-mini
eawriter Posted August 7, 2024 Author Share #12 Posted August 7, 2024 Thank you all for your suggestions. All of them sound workable to me—I now need to investigate them and pick one that seems to be the best fit for me on this trip. I appreciate your help.
