Parasky Posted July 23, 2024 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) A question for people much smarter than I am. I'm trying to figure out how to approximately compose an Xpan crop with the Q3. I believe that if I use the 28mm width and the 50mm height, then that will be pretty close to the 65X24 Xpan ration. Does this make sense? I will shoot only in Raw so it won't be actually cropped.
Advertisement Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 Hi Parasky, Take a look here Would the 50mm crop guidelines on a Q3 approximate the vertical crop in a 65X24 Xpan ratio?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
M8X2 Posted July 23, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2024 Depends on your definition of 'close'. 28:50 = 1:1,8; 24:65 = 1:2,7. To me, that is still a significant difference, but maybe for you it is close enough.
dpitt Posted July 23, 2024 Share #3 Posted July 23, 2024 (edited) So you are looking for a way to 'frame' a shot like the Xpan with a Q3? AFAIK any current Leica allows for displaying a custom grid in the display, so the simplest way would be to display a 3x3 grid and just use the middle 3 blocks from left to right as a guideline. that is 1:3 ratio and very close to 1:2,7. I am not sure about this, and never shot an Xpan, but it seems like you will get the same FOV as the Xpan with an 80mm lens this way (3x ~26mm FL) Just my 2 cents...
