stuny Posted December 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 9, 2007 Jeff - I only follow 4-wheel vehicle racing, so I don't know the rider. However, delightful catch, crispness, color and light.
elansprint72 Posted December 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2007 Yes, but I've no idea who the guy on the bike is.
delander † Posted December 10, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted December 10, 2007 Maybe there are not many Leica motocycle racing fans. There were zillions of cameras at this event, but I only spotted one other M8. This guy is a legend, come on you Aussies! Jeff

Here is one of the 6 wheelers in action at Monaco, 1976, Patrick Depailler puts in a fast one during practice, going inside Carlos Pace in the Martini Racing Brabham BT45. I'm not sue where I took this from, perhaps swimming pool area? Not a Leica shot, I'll yellow card myself. Troy Bayliss. Welcome, dear visitor! steed Posted December 10, 2007 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2007 Hey kids That is not an F1 Lotus with Clark's name on it. Look at the motor. Looks like an F2 to me. If I am wrong please let me know quietly. If I am right, please make a triumphant announcement. Where are the really old racing images taken with Leicas? Its been a while since there was a nostalgic posting. Thanks to all for the images John W
stuny Posted December 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted December 10, 2007 (vast, loud trumpeting) John - You're right, it's not F1. Might even be F Jr. What do you think, Pete?
elansprint72 Posted December 11, 2007 Share #12 Posted December 11, 2007 Well spotted! It is the unique Lotus 32B fitted with 2.5 ltr four-pot Coventry Climax engine, this was raced in the Tasman (NZ and Oz) series by JC winning nine of the thirteen races. delander † Posted December 11, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted December 11, 2007 I thought somebody would have got it especially the Aussies on these forums. The racing motocyclist is the irrepressible Australian Troy Bayliss, World Superbike champion in 2001 and 2006. In 2003/4/5 he rode for Ducati in Moto GP where he had less success. He was dropped from the Moto GP team in 2006 in favour of Sete Gibernau but transferred back to the Superbike team and won the championship. At the end of 2006 Ducati brought him back into the Moto GP for the last race of the season to replace the injured Sete Gibernau. Bayliss won that race - his only Moto GP win. elansprint72 Posted December 11, 2007 Share #17 Posted December 11, 2007 I always wondered what would have happened if Ken had got together with March (who produced an F1 car with four small, driven, rear wheels) from an aerodynamics point of view this would have given perhaps an extra 20 mph v-max; maybe the frictional losses and extra weight would have reduced this a bit though?

elansprint72 Posted December 11, 2007 Share #19 Posted December 11, 2007 Jeff, both these shots remind me what a small pool we are fishing in. What a shame that the folks from AUDI choose to use those modern hoses with coloured anodised fittings and plastic tubing. Post some more, looks like I'll miss yet another Festival of Speed due to the clash with Le Mans Classic- how do they do that? :(
Guest flatfour Posted December 12, 2007 Share #20 Posted December 12, 2007 Pete - Wasn't the Audi built by Crossthwaite and Gardner ?
