But this is my question :  do you know for a fact that it does or does not have a battery type detector (or communicate with the battery to get the voltage requirement).  If Leica says it is compatible, which they do, why would you suggest it might not have that?  Just asking questions.

I don't know if Leica even said the S006 charger is compatible to S007/S3. Where did you see that.

Did anyone find a reliable source for Leica cables ? I found a company that’s manufacturing the lemo cables. I’ve seen a few Leica ambassadors posting on Instagram about them. Hopefully they are available soon in the UK

I have tried Lemo cables that has 9 pins but not marked 16040, doesn't work. Not sure the problem, the pin assignment? or if it needs proper microchip.

I have tracked down the company. It’s a company called Rock cameras. They have made a 10 metre usb-c version of the lemo cable that works with Leica. They said it will be available to buy in December from them and stocked in some Leica stores and Leica specialists.

It sounds fantastic as I have been using the Leica cables with a 5 metre extension but it’s all been usb-3. The fact it’s a usb c and also 10 metres long will be a bit of a game changer for me

This was several months ago.  We were not talking about an S006 charger that would charge S007/S3 batteries, we were talking about the dual charger being comparable with charging S006 batteries and S007/S3 batteries.

The S006 catalog shows the 16011 charger as charging S system batteries.  In addition, the 2015 catalog with the S007 still shows the 16011 charger as charging S system batteries, but has changed out all the cables for the S007 (which were not compatible with the S006).

Leica has clearly supported the dual charger for the S batteries from both systems and there have been no reports of fires or overheating from use of that charger that I have seen on the forum or elsewhere.

That was my point in August.

I would be careful interpreting your “S system battery” since S006 and S007 are not compatible. There is no Leica official  chargers that can charge all S batteries.

I guess the reason that the dual charger was listed on S007 category was a mistake. It cannot even charge S006 battery reliably, not to mention S007.

I am not convinced whether it would overheat means much.

I do hope it is compatible with S007 and hope it would be available.

I have 16040, but I have problem to connect it through LR. Which SW do you use? C1?

I have been charging both battery systems on that charger (2 of them) since 2018.  Does an incredible job and much easier than one at a time.  Both of mine have charged reliably for 6 years. Leica folks from 3 different stores in 2 countries have told me it works on both systems. This is all proof enough for me that it is properly listed in both catalogs.

I don’t have experience with dual charger like you do. But my impression is dual chargers are hard to find due to unreliable and out of order. Your experience is certainly a valuable data point. I cannot say your experience is a minor data point. I wish to read more similar experiences.

Anyway, personally I would just buy two single charger that Leica offered for S007/S3. It would be cheaper, easy to find and  least worry.

The people who have had problems with the chargers make the most noise. I have a dual charger and it works like a charm with both batteries. I like the fact that it has a display showing the level of charge, unlike just the light for 80% on the single charger. Also, if the voltage difference were such an important issue, why does Leica state that the 007/S3 batteries work fine with the older cameras, in fact lasting longer? The website lists the same battery for the S3 and S006, the same charger, too. I would think that if the batteries made such a difference as to damage the electronics as you have implied earlier, there would be a slew of complaints online, not to mention lawsuits against Leica for ruining their cameras. Same goes for the chargers.

+1. I use the dual charger for the older (S006) and newest (S3) batteries, no problem whatsoever. Also no problems swopping batteries between the bodies.

I also use the AC batteri adapter S on both bodies, it works without problems, and it is really convenient (as is the somewhat similar USB-C battery adapter for SL-bodies).

I cannot comment who made more noise. In the QA world, the problematic defect rate could be several PPM. Even with 3-sigma, it would be very small but alarming.

S007 battery works on old S camera is one thing, but the concern is whether the old battery works on S007.

But the earlier point was about the chargers, not the batteries.

It is related. It's about compatibility, and probably the voltage is the primary issue if nothing else.

Anyway, since you have used it without trouble, there is no point to convince you.

It's whether other's should follow the same path to ignore any uncertainty.

Leica sells the same battery and charger for the S006 and S3, as has done so for years. I wouldn't think they would leave themselves open to complaints and possible damages.

If you are talking about new battery, new charger, then I agree with you therre is less concern if they work on both new and old models.

But if you are talking about mixing old and new battery/charger/camera, then the question is how they work in the combinations:

1: old battery type  with new camera:
Leica does not recommend this combo.

2: old battery type with new charger type:  ??? (charging 7.3v battery wihty 7.2v charger):
I would  not worry much on this. The worst acenario is battery not fully charged.

3: new battery type with old charger type: ??? (charging 7.2v battery with 7.3v charger):
This could be bad. The battery would be over-charged.
The scenatio could be short life of the battery, which, many people may not notice.

Wow, great find! Please let us know how it works out in December, I would be curious to see and how much.
