I see the flares and ghosting are consistent.

Yes indeed - as expected really.

Absent those, it’s a very nice little lens. I could have bought a real one for about double the price but I thought why bother, really. If I want to spend money, I’ll buy a 35 Apo! Be a little careful where the sun is and it returns very nice images. Or don’t and enjoy the flare etc

I think this is a well made and affordable option, in brass with black paint and with the focus tab customised the way Leica did for HCB. For what that’s worth.

Quality wise I’d say it’s on a par with the CV lenses I’ve had, at the very least.

After all, why do we bother taking pictures? It’s supposed to be fun!

Quality wise it is 95% identical to the original 8 element, with maybe 5-10% better sharpness. An amazing lens to have in collection.

I was comparing it (physically rather than optically) with my 28 Summilux.

Obviously one is aluminium and one brass which changes the feel a bit but the aperture ring on the LLL is very precise with firm detent clicks. The Lux is much softer and in fact once or twice I’ve noticed the aperture move a couple of clicks if you brush the ring a bit with a finger when focusing.

At present it’s not something I’d send the lens back to Wetzlar for fettling but if I ever send it back for something more significant, I’ll ask them if they can firm it up a bit at the same time.

Maybe it’s meant to be like that - it’s the only copy of the 28 Lux I’ve owned so I don’t have any comparison.

Don’t shoot into the sun was one of the earliest things I was taught about photography.

Generally true, but rules are there to be broken.
