M5 Battery

Not sure if this is the right section for this, but here goes.  I have a M5 that I assumed was not converted to take the 1.5 volt batteries.   So, I bought a CRIS adapter and everything works fine as far as I can tell.  However, the needle for the battery check doesn't get into the notch in the viewfinder.  It only goes about two thirds of the way there.  If I were to put in a 1.5 volt battery without the adapter, would this do any harm.  Thanks for any help.

1.5 won't cause harm. Sounds like maybe the meter was adjusted for 1.5 - worth a try.
