Einst_Stein Posted July 5, 2024 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Got message from Leica about whether three interested used 30-90mm have new generation focus motor. One with series number earlier than 4305100 is old generation. Two with series number later than 4305100 are new generation. Not sure if this can be generalized. Take it with your own judge. John McMaster Posted July 5, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2024 Mine is 42916** and was bought new (maybe slightly older stock) in August 2014. john
Einst_Stein Posted July 5, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted July 5, 2024 The older generation might have been upgraded to new motor in later time.
Pieter12 Posted July 6, 2024 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2024 It is simple enough to send the serial number to Leica, they have been very good about letting you know if any service has been done to the equipment. The only autofocus-related problems I have had with a lens seemed to be more related to the actual mechanism (the drive?) than the motor itself, which spun without moving anything. So the motor is not the only thing that could fail. Nonetheless, It was replaced when the lens was sent in for service.
davidmknoble Posted July 16, 2024 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2024 They still have great service in Germany on the S lenses. I have two CS lenses there now to get cleaned and one to replace a motor. So, even it it needs done, they still perform the work admirably.
davidmknoble Posted July 19, 2024 Share #6 Posted July 19, 2024 Follow up, I just got my 35mm CS lens back (it already had a new focus motor) and asked them to clean the dust out of the interior of the lens. They took it apart, cleaned the lenses, finished the CLA and returned it to me on goodwill! Leica has its problems like any company, but when they do well, they do really well and cement relationships for life. Happy Leica customer.
