Steve19958 Posted June 23, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am shooting Q3 with B&W jpeg and a raw file. When I transfer both files via Fotos the raw file shows as a B&W image on my Android Curious if this is normal. Would like to send the raw color version via email not a B&W. If I shot all in color than I can convert to B&W on phone. I like to view and shoot in B&W Is there a Android app to show the raw as color, that I can send? The Q3, like most of not all cameras, embeds a JPEG in the RAW file, and it uses the "Leica Look" as the basis of that JPEG (in this case B&W) The SW on your Android App is just displaying that embedded JPEG. Normally, once you edit the RAW file the JPEG view will disappear and you will see the actual Raw file as decoded by the app. I'm not sure about Android Apps (I use an iPhone) but most photo editors should display the RAW image rather than the embedded JPEG. dpitt Posted June 23, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2024 As @Corius explained, this is normal for some appliations because they will show the unedited RAW file using the embedded JPEG inside the RAW file. Try to find a minimal edit operation to trigger re-calculation of the preview file and it will show in color. If you want to make sure that the recipient sees the same as you do when opening the file, it is safer to export it as a JPEG and send that anyway. Some users will not be able to open an RAW file. A Q3 RAW 60MP file would be too large to send as a mail attachment, but you can of course use a free transfer service like https://wetransfer.com to send large files. Steve19958 Posted June 23, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted June 23, 2024 @Corius Thank you. As I discovered Google Photos does not convert the raw. Snapseed & Lightroom apps do now I have color. There are probably more apps that will accomplish the same thing. 2 hours ago, Corius said: The Q3, like most of not all cameras, embeds a JPEG in the RAW file, and it uses the "Leica Look" as the basis of that JPEG (in this case B&W) The SW on your Android App is just displaying that embedded JPEG.
