Q3 for Asian cities

Hi,

I'm going to Singapore and Bangkok for a few days at the beginning of 2025. Street is an issue, but actually the city with its buildings and temples is even more so. I could take my Nikon Z6 with 14-30 + 24-120 with me, but "lugging it around" for hours in the temperatures there is only limited fun. That's why I'm thinking about getting a Leica Q3 (also as a birthday present) and leaving the Nikon at home. My only concern is that I might miss something in the wide-angle range.

What do you think, a good idea with just the Q3 or not?

Stitching a 2 or 3 portrait 28mm shots from the Q3 gets you a long way to replace a ultra wide angle, and it will be super high resolution too.
Capture One Pro does a great job for panorama's, even if there are moving objects like cars and people in there.

My wife and I are heading to Scotland for 3 weeks in the autumn, and I will only be taking the Q3. Two years ago I just took my Q2 to England, and only once wished I had brought another lens. I think with a camera like the Q it’s not what you miss, but what you see when the distractions of additional lenses, settings, and weight are taken away.

In life, we always miss something.  That is the natural result of any decision. Will you enjoy your time in Asia more if your photographic kit is simple and direct, or do you prefer the complexity of multiple lenses?

There have been a few times I’ve missed  not having more lenses (very few), but have found I get better photos not worrying about what lenses to use or regretting the weight of a 20lb camera bag.

28mm is my standard lens on a Leica M for street, cities and buildings, incl. temples, since I spent a lot of time in Japan. Therefore, I think, a Q3 would be the perfect companion for you. And please keep in mind, in the destinations mentioned it will be hot and humid incl. almost daily rain in Singapore, so I would not enjoy to carry a lot of photographic equipment around.

I was in Paris a month ago and I brought my Q3.  I regret not bringing a backup camera with a 24-70mm for some areas.  I knew where I was going each day and could switch out a camera mid-day.  I should have brought my Sony a1 too.  I got everything I wanted image wise but the crop feature on the Q3 is okay not great for street.  There were several days where I really regretted it having the option

All more reason to take a Q3 which is weather resistant.

I recently returned from many weeks in Europe.  It still shocks me how small, light and powerful the Q3 is.  As a result I carried it with me every time I left the room.  Also, it is like using a M in the way that no one is threatened by it.  

Next time I plan on taking a very small light carbon tripod.
