Would you care to write a comparison between LR and/or C1 and Darktable? What they do that Darktable doesn't? Difference in raw conversion outcome (if any)?

I would like to, but I have neither. There are some comparisons on the internet but they refer to old versions and imo are often biased.

Here is my 2 cents on darktable.  I switched to darktable from Adobe back in January 2019 when they announced the subscription model.  I moved my 25,000 image library into darktable and thankfully, darktable recognized all of the metadata tags and even attempted to apply some of the basic adjustments like exposure, saturation, etc.  Since then my catalog is at over 50,000 images (all local to my computer/network) and I haven't looked back or really missed lightroom.  darktable has a nice tagging feature, a maps feature, numerous ways to filter images and of course, the editing module.

The one complaint most have about darktable is how complex it first appears, and it can be.  In Lightroom, there is generally one way to do something.  In darktable, there can be multiple depending on exactly what you want.  The upside of this is that you can do anything you want, there are even multiple demosaicing options for raw files. I've run files from Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon, Fuji and now Leica through it without issue.  You can save 'presets' that you can easily apply to save time.  There are LUT modules that let you apply various LUTs and a ton of other options.

All in all, I love darktable and have never regretted leaving Adobe.
