28framelines Posted June 17, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Obviously, if you buy this lens, you’re buying it partially for the flare it gives. I’m wondering what filter I should get to preserve this while also protecting the front element. Thanks for the help!
Advertisement Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Hi 28framelines, Take a look here What filter for 35mm Summilux Steel Rim Re-Issue?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
patrickcolpron Posted June 17, 2024 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2024 The only filter I use is a Leica silver chrome E46 filter. I swapped the lens from a black rim Leica E46 yellow filter in it, when shooting black and white. Welcome, dear visitor! I prefer using the lens without a filter when using a color Digital M or color film stock and I also prefer using it without a lens hood.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Forgot to follow up: do you find this filter causes additional vignetting if you use the updated hood, or flaring if you don’t use the hood?

iDont Posted August 27, 2024 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2024 I have the breakthrough ND filter to use the lens wide open at really bright situation to keep the glowy effect. Apart from that, the e46 UV filter is my daily. As Patrick mentioned, I too skipped the hood nowadays for a smaller footprint.

The only lens cap that would work with a filter on the SR reissue is an aftermarket 46mm pinch cap or the leica branded E46 lens cap.

RexGig0 Posted September 15, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 15, 2024 It is EINS filters. They are not easy to source, outside the Japanese market.
shirubadanieru Posted September 15, 2024 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2024 I like the B+W titanium filters, very thin and the best glass available from what I understand. I prefer if they made them in silver chrome, but I find that since they are so thin they still go quite well with silver lenses too.

Of course the filter doesn’t work with round hood because it doesn’t have the front thread. But it is thin enough for OLLUX to snap on. That isn't how I read the comment: "Unfortunately, the OLLUX style hood does not work even with the ultra thin Eins unx-9625 UV filter." But I have no experience with this hood or filter. Have you tried it yourself?

Although it’s thin (1.1mm), it shifts the position of the lens pin, preventing proper attachment of the hood. However, if I want to use a UV filter with the OLLUX, I just drop a B+W 43mm UV filter upside down inside the lens. The hood connects without any issues, and the filter does not move once the hood is attached. 1

Just wondering

Just wondering It doesn’t pose any risk and doesn’t come into contact with the lens front element. It’s actually very safe. Just reverse the filter so the rear threads are on top. The B+W version I have is the slim fits perfectly, though I haven’t tried other UV filter brands. It doesn’t leave any marks on the lens. I’ve used it many times when attaching the OLLUX.
