AnakChan Posted June 15, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's a little hack I did for my Leica M11 today. I've always been a little worried about the durability of the USB-C charging port on the baseplate and due to the length of USB plugs, I get concerned of little accidents from flexing that may result in the breaking the port. It'll be an expensive repair if it did. So I picked up a magnetic USB-C cable where I can leave the USB-C plug permanently in the M11 whilst the charging cable can attach/detach if there's ever any over flexing putting less strain on the USB-C socket. As I have the IDS Grip, I had to choose a magnetic USB-C cable that's pill-shaped (a lot of them are round-shaped) which fits in nicely into the IDS Grip. However I think such a magnetic USB-C cable plug would fit into any M11 case with a battery access flap. Sorry for the low quality pictures, taken with an iPhone. kyono Posted June 15, 2024 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2024 Using a magnetic USB terminal greatly increases the risk of device short circuit. If you are lucky, only the protection circuit may be damaged, but in the worst case, the board may be damaged. 1
