Knarf Posted June 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have any experience of using the Panasonic 70-300mm with a Leica CL especially on game drives in Namibia? Is it battery hungry using it in AF mode? Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Hi Knarf, Take a look here Panasonic Lumix 70-300mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 14, 2024 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2024 Sounds like a useful combination. I have tested a comparable Sigma 70-200 plus 1.4x extender on the CL recently and the kit makes for an easy and effective occasional Safari set IMO. I did use a handgrip and thumb grip Battery life? CL chargers and batteries are cheap and plentiful. Quite a few safari vehicles have charging facilities on board nowadays. The only drawback in Namibia might be the dust sealing. The Sigma has full weather seal, I do not know about the Panasonic lens.
ChrisAu Posted June 15, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2024 I tried and the battery dried up so fast! Honestly, I'm not recommend to use 70300 on CL
tritentrue Posted June 15, 2024 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2024 Not only on the CL, it's also a bit of a battery hog on the SL2.
Shawn30 Posted June 15, 2024 Share #5 Posted June 15, 2024 No Africa experience but I use the 70-300 frequently mostly on full frame. I’ve used it on the CL and it drains the batteries more quickly. But it’s a sharp lens, the OIS is very good, it’s dust and splash resistant, and it’s light. If I was taking the CL and knew I’d need reach, I’d take the 70-300 no hesitation.
