Sounds like a useful combination. I have tested a comparable Sigma 70-200 plus 1.4x extender on the CL recently and the kit makes for an easy and effective occasional Safari set IMO. I did use a handgrip and thumb grip

Battery life? CL chargers and batteries are cheap and plentiful. Quite a few safari vehicles have charging facilities on board nowadays.

The only drawback in Namibia might be the dust sealing. The Sigma has full weather seal, I do not know about the Panasonic lens.

No Africa experience but I use the 70-300 frequently mostly on full frame. I’ve used it on the CL and it drains the batteries more quickly.
But it’s a sharp lens, the OIS is very good, it’s dust and splash resistant, and it’s light. If I was taking the CL and knew I’d need reach, I’d take the 70-300 no hesitation.
