Good question haha - I'm an idiot and forgot to snug up the lug that screws into the threads. I *always* check this before every shoot and today was the day my ape brain decided to skip that step and of course this happened. How many times have I checked that it's tight in the past and never had to snug it up? Thousands. But this day was the day it decided to be just loose enough to work itself off the threads.

I know it sounds crazy, but you can email your distributor (Leica in NJ in my case), and ask them. You'll get a reply from a real human. I've done it myself, and I know of others who have. They can't work miracles, but they will do their best to accommodate you.

This only works for non-rush jobs, of course. If your equipment is inoperative, you may as well send it in right away to get it into the queue.

One thing to keep in mind, which won't be obvious to non-Europeans, is that August is a bad time to send equipment to Germany.

Sadly it didn't happen the last time I needed a lens repaired in Wetzlar. Leica UK were very helpful and communicative, but did not suggest that approach. They were as embarrassed as I was disappointed when it took seven months, with no feedback from Wetzlar in the interval.

Like I said, they can't work miracles, especially if Wetzlar is backed-up for the foreseeable future, but do their best to accommodate you.

And don`t worry about that top dial either. It is supported to be rotated, and that rotational support may have been "dented" inside slightly by the impact, resulting in more friction than there was before. However, if the dial still functions properly (and it seems it does), I would just keep on using the body as is. After all, this is a workhorse for you, so it wears its scars with pride.

I don't use filters, you're right, no sense risking harming anything else by trying to straighten it. I'll just leave it. Was planning on being buried with this lens anyway, so what does it matter what it looks like haha.

And totally true about it being scarred up in general. I'm just going to work with it for a while and see how it feels. If the amount of added resistance gets to be too annoying, maybe I'll send it in, but for now I just need to recalibrate my brain and get used to it. Maybe when the SL3-S gets released and SL2-S prices dip even more (assuming all this happens) I'll pick up another (fourth lol) body and relegate this one to more casual use or just an ultimate back up solution.
