NigelG Posted June 9, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2024 It’s actually in Kensington Gardens as it’s west of the Long Water past the Italian Gardens (I have a place in a square a few hundred yards away so am “up” on the distinction…) Apparently it was the worlds first battery-powered ice cream “truck”! It opens quite early in the day in summer so I’ve sometimes thought of picking-up a cone to wipe-out the benefits of my morning 10k around Hyde Park / Kensington Gardens…🍦
NigelG Posted June 9, 2024 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2024 A critical difference between Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park (although they appear contiguous) is that Kensington Gardens are surrounded by railings/gates which are closed at “dusk”. This somewhat nebulous definition has led me on many occasions to help people lift bikes/prams (strollers) etc over the railings next to the exit one-way turnstile gates when they have been caught out - the gates are locked at the south entrances first and if you’re walking north from South Kensington etc you can enter the Gardens heading to Bayswater / Notting Hill and arrive at the north gates to find them locked…. Yes, maps, Google or paper weren't much help, The truck was right next to the Italian Garden, I think, we were never sure if it wasHyde Park or Kensington Garden. Any corrections are appreciated. Sice this entrance was about 5 blocks from our hotel, we walked in both parks a lot.
