Addressing the GAS part of the equation, concur getting the S5ii to get a fix. In my case, kept the M10r, sold the SL2 got HB X2D, got the S1r (didn’t like the weight/bulk but liked the fit and color), then traded for S5ii (great small size but still didn’t like the menus), went back to the SL2 now in silver; the latter just like the M10r (and the X2D), will be keepers.

For purpose of taking pictures, mainly mid aperture landscapes, haven’t used the M10r much, despite using the visoflex, lack of ibis and manual focusing are challenges as I get older. The L mount kit usually end up on a trip but plan on taking the M kit next week to Mongolia. If that works well without ibis, and if manual focus is viable, dilemma might be perhaps ditching all L lenses(Leica/Sigma/Panasonic), but have the option of M lenses on the SL2 (getting the APO35 M!).

Not planning to get the M11, the rumored M12 with evf unless it has ibis but need to know what is tangibly better than putting the visoflex on.

Agree should never sell Leica gear, but the final scenario is if there’s a M 50mp+ and with ibis, even if visoflex instead of evf, will gladly ditch the whole L mess and stay with M glass for the light weight carry.

Personally I think that the M11 is a bridge too far away from the original M concept. My end station would be the M10 ( or M10R if you insist on an overdose of pixels). For me the ultimate M is my M9 Monochrom.

I agree. At what point does an M cease to become an M ?

Its an interesting question.

Seems M has moved to an N, as in ‘No thanks,’ for many…. including me.  M10-R and M10 Monochrom more than suffice, as my prints are typically smallish.  An M10-P would have been fine, but the M10-R and M10M work well together with ‘sister’ sensors.

I think the M10r is the last of the traceable M lineage for me, last of the removable bottom plate.

M11 and beyond is a new branch. Still might get one if the capabilities warrant, but will keep the M10r.

I  think that the M10 is the last real M. A rock solid rangefinder camera with a minimum of frills. From now on it is just adding stuff to sell new cameras with all the attendant problems.

With a purely professional photography hat on I would not consider an M11 simply because it is not a cost effective option. Probably a nice enough camera but there are many options out there which will deliver extremely good results. Speking as someone who has used Leica Ms for 45 years plus Nikons, Canons, Sony, Contax, Leicas, and plenty more, I've never had a problem wit a client suggesting that a camera didn't produce good enough results. If you want an M11 because you want an M11 I have no problem with that, but I don't think there is any other justification at its price point these days.

So you've seen my post in the Samyang 35-150 thread? 😇

No, all I did was read all of paragraph #2 in post #9 leading up to the sentence I quoted. Nothing but GAS… followed by claim of cured GAS.  First step in 12 step program, I hear, is to recognize disease. 😉

Just have to say: I've been pulling the bottoms off of Leicas since the 1960s (while sitting, standing, indoors over hsrdwood or carpet, outdoors in wheat fields, in museums, in darkened theaters,  in the woods, while ambling, loping, or hurrying) and I just can't work myself into a sense of nostalgia about the practice.

I kind of like the M11 and M11M battery, though I wish I didn't have to remove the battery to get at the SD card. Just one more thing to drop in the subway...

Hi Almizilero,

I have a M11 with quite a few M lenses.

I shoot M  fro more than 50 years.

I got a shutter problem few months ago  (became ultra firm!!) and had to give the M11 to a Leica store in Paris for repair (under warranty).

i found that it was the perfect occasion and/or alibi to purchase a second hand mint SL2S and a M-L conversion mount.

I felt in love with the SL2S and the beauty of the files, colors, rendition etc..

Now I bought the 35 cron SL (non apo) and the results are even better.

I think I may sell the M11... and keep only 2 "special" M lenses (35 lux pre asph titane and 75 lux pre asph)

My 2 cents, no need fro an M11!

Best,

Well I have to say the M11 is my first M and I love it. I looked at the M10 in the past but the bottom plate, lower res sensor, and worse battery life mean I was never tempted. I've had the M11 for 18 months and would never consider an M10 or SL2 instead.

Good for you and smart move.

The M11 is a bg upgrade from the M10 and that's not taking anything away from the M10. All the small and large changes added up for me without question trade in more stuff than I want to remember to get my M11M. Mindblowing camera..M11 was too but sold that recently to use my Q3 and other cameras to fill the gap.

Just in weight alone still can't believe they managed to make the Black version 540 grams or so..wild..I missed a lighter M since the M9.

What ‘concept’ are you referring to?

What M lenses do you have? Higher sensor resolution usually requires lenses that can resolve them. This comes from my Sony A7RV and Fuji GFX native lens experiences and adapting old M lenses on them. As one example, my LLL replica of Leica 35mm Summicron V1 does not perform as well as my VM APO on high res sensors. With that said, most modern Leica lenses should be OK. Also, I’m sure Leica has done some work on the M11 to make sure to produce good images even for older lenses such as 35 Summicron Pre-ASPH. On the other hand, getting lenses such as the latest 35 APO could be another source of G.A.S.

I have the M10 and two film Leicas and I can just use any lenses without worrying about the resolution and the image is always pleasing!

I traded my Q2 and M10 for an M11 and in spite of those who seem to think it is hopeless flawed and we should tremble in our boots rather than own an M11 I love mine.  A handful of unexplained “freezes” usually with some afterthought were mostly human error.

If you’re not using the cameras I would do it! M11 is a great camera!

If you’re not using it, even as a back up body, I’d sell it and see if you can stretch to a Q3. Hinged rear screen might help in gig photography and it is reputed to have similar low light performance as the M11, actually giving the extra stop of dynamic range when reducing the size of DNG. If auto focus is important, it has that too. Has the added advantage of keeping your M11 GAS alive!
