Bryan Goh Posted May 28, 2024 Share #1  Posted May 28, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Would like some feedback on the film advance lever on film M bodies while resting thumb on it and releasing shutter. I noticed that the lever free's up immediately after shutter is released, which causes my thumb to move slightly if resting on it. This is quite different from my Nikon film bodies which lock the lever in place when resting the thumb on it and firing, it will only release if pressure from the thumb is let go. Any advise?
Advertisement Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Hi Bryan Goh, Take a look here MP Film advance lever "frees" when using as thumb rest and firing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted May 28, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted May 28, 2024 Well it is normal for your MP so nothing to worry about, and the lever moving in a similar way after firing is the same on my Nikon F and F2 bodies, it's only from the F3 onwards where you have to release tension on the lever a fraction.

Thanks for the feedback! Is it the same for all film M's? Yea I have an FE2 and FM2 which locks in place and tension has to be released before winding again (which I think I prefer).
250swb Posted May 28, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted May 28, 2024 (edited) Yes my FM2n, FM3a, and as I said my F3 are locked, my M2, M4-P and MP all move (ready to be wound on quickly). Edited May 28, 2024 by 250swb
kroko Posted June 4, 2024 Share #5  Posted June 4, 2024 Good to know it’s intentional on the Nikons. I always thought my FM had a problem.
