Has anyone used a cameraquest Visoflex/M to Nikon F adapter with the long Visoflex lenses on an F6 or F5? Questions about weight.

Hi all,

not sure if this is the correct forum, Mods please move if I’m incorrect.

I have a visoflex 3, the Leitz OUBIO Adapter (with the tripod foot), a 280 4.8.

I also have an F6 and my wife has one of the digital F cameras.

I know cameraquest, japanhobbytool and I think Novoflex make a Leica M to Nikon F adapter so that these lenses can be used on F cameras.

my questions are these:

1) currently when I use my Visoflex set with my m9 and the 280, I mount everything on the tripod using the tripod foot on the OUBIO instead of the mount on the 280 lens body. Is this the correct place to mount to tripod for weight distribution and safety?

2) with the above setup, minus the m9, but plus one of the aforementioned Leica M to Nikon F adapters AND my F6, are these Leica to Nikon adapters strong enough and safe to use with a heavy F6 pulling down on the back side and a heavy 280mm (plus OUBIO) pulling down on the front side? If you have and use a similar heavy Leitz lens and heavy Nikon F setup, how do you do it? Where do you mount tripod and do you feel secure with the adapter holding the big weights? An F5 would be even heavier!

I periodically use long Leica Visoflex lenses (including the 280) with a Viso->Nikon adapter but 0n a D300 or F4. As to where to mount the tripod,, I look each time for the closest point to  the center of gravity. I've never had a situation where there appeared to be excessive strain on the lens, camera or mount.

I do not use a Nikon with my Visoflex lenses, but I do use the heavy SL(601) from time to time.
With this combination the OUBIO is the best place to mount it on a tripod with the 280mm and 200mm lenses.
I do not know these adapters, but going by my experience with Novoflex adapters for Leica they will be more than adequate to take the weight. In fact, any decent adapter should be able to take 1 Kg on either side without issues, like is the case in my combination of the 280mm with the SL.

For shorter lenses (< 200mm) that do not use the OUBIO, my URTH and Novoflex adapters easily take the full weight of the lens when the camera is mounted on the tripod.
