Hello,

Interested to hear feedback from anyone who has used both versions of the 50mm Summilux ASPH (the original 11819 and newer close focus 11728).

There are surprisingly few reviews/comparisons of the newer version so wondering if anyone upgraded (or decided not to) and their real-world impressions.

I previously owned the original version and found it to be a great performer in terms of handling and image quality but the new version is only a little more expensive (here in Hong Kong) so I'm tossing up which one to buy.

For reference, I'll be using it on an M11-P and my main hesitation towards the new version is the increased size as I generally prefer smaller lenses.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Very interesting to read that Leica under-quoted the weight by almost 50g - that's a bit of a deal-breaker for me so I may opt for the V1 after all (or try to justify to APO Summicron instead).

50g is a deal-breaker - really??   50g is only the weight of a USB drive or a box of matches.

Pete.

For me, yes - but each to their own.

Understand it seems like only a small incremental gain but I enjoy the M system in large part because of the compact, high quality lenses. And, as many have commented, the V2 Summilux ASPH offers little improvements over the V1 (other than close focus) so I’d prefer the smaller and lighter option.
