Hi everybody,

First time Leica user here. My Q3 is making a short, high pitched noise when shutting down. It is not very loud but noticeable in a very quiet room and when close to the face.

I am wondering if this is something common for other Q3 users or should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Peter

I just tested mine, I'm not hearing any high pitch noise. I hear the click of what sounds to be like the shutter, but it's quiet and brief. How long does the high pitch sound last for? I might suggest going back and getting it checked out.

It happened few times. Brief and very quiet. Right at the end of shutting down sequence. I was not able to duplicate it today at all. Trying to convience myself it was a break-in period :)

I put an Earthworks TC30K microphone near my Q3 and fed that into an RME UFX A/D convertor. These are professional quality components.

Monitoring the output of the mic, I could neither hear (on Sennheiser HD600 neadphones) nor see on my specturm analyser anything audible from the camera when switching it on/off or depressing the button halfway, with the exception of the expected mechanical noise from the lens adjusting focus (which I can hear acoustically). I also waved it around in an effort to hear the OIS, but heard no hf whistle.

The ticking of my grandfather clock from the other end of the room, 5 metres away, and the sound of me taping this are louder than what I heard from my Q3.

anything like this ?

The pitch whine is only heard up close to the ear and when turning unit off. I havn't noticed it in any other situation. I will call Leica tomorrow and see if they have any inside.

Why don't you just turn the Q3 off in the normal way without inserting it in your ear first, then you won't hear the noise?

I appreciate you trying to cheer me up, but the noise is still noticeable even without sticking it inside my ear :)

Take it to a Leica dealer.

There is no way people can diagnose a sound without hearing it...one persons obnoxious sound is another persons 'what sound?'
