algrove Posted May 24, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds interesting. Not sure if a 90 adapter will work OK for adapting to M mount. Thanks for any comments. Edited May 24, 2024 by algrove
Advertisement Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Hi algrove, Take a look here Anyone tried the Canon 100mm f/2 L39 LTM Leica Screw Mount Lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted May 24, 2024 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2024 I used to have the LTM Canon 135 Serenar, which I used fine on film and digital. No issues with the M adapter, which was an inexpensive Chinese clone. The lens had similar contrast and slightly superior resolution to its Leica equivalent of the time. I never tried the Canon 100 though, as I already had a Leica 90 and 135 and the FL of the Canon seemed too close and almost needlessly duplicative for my work.
Ecar Posted May 24, 2024 Share #3 Posted May 24, 2024 Great lens. One of Canon's best IMO - along with the 85/1.8 LTM. Only downsides: the odd focal length and, of course, its size and weight. I (and possibly others) must have posted a few shots taken with it in "The view through Older Glass" thread. An LTM->M 28-90 adapter ring will work, although I can't remember if further mechanical modding by a technician was required on my copy (because of their design, the RF cams used by Canon on their long lenses sometimes fail to properly engage the camera roller on a Leica - experimenting with different adapters may or may not help). You'd probably need to get focus adjusted anyway, as the DoF @ f/2 is very thin.
sandro Posted May 24, 2024 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2024 I have the Canon 3.5/100mm, which I use not nearly enough, so this should make me use it more often. Not very fast but a wonderful lens to use and certainly not too heavy. Lex Welcome, dear visitor! algrove Posted May 25, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted May 25, 2024 Thanks all for your informative replies. I like the look of the red dress image. Sharp but not too sharp is one way to call the rendering. Might try one since all my Leica 90's just look too good. The oldest Leica I have is the 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit from 1973. Must admit have not tried it on my M11 as of yet. Guess I should see how it renders before getting another lens.
