jrp Posted May 20, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted May 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm confused about these settings: what is the difference between styles and looks? Â How do I switch these off? Â Classic seems to turn everything cyan and burn out the highlights. Â What settings should I use for best viewfinder experience (I'm always going to edit DNGs in Lightroom, so the JPEG rendering is not of particular interest). Â There used to be standard and natural in the SL2 (with undocumented differences). Part of my problem is, I suspect, that the Leica Photos App doesn't support both looks and styles, but I just want ... errrr ... the essentials, an optimal viewfinder setting. Advertisement Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Hi jrp, Take a look here SL3: Film Styles, Looks, etc. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 20, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted May 20, 2024 Film styles is the SL2 equivalent. Bottom line in the jpeg settings, in camera. You can customise the closest one to taste to get what you want. Leica looks are jpeg recipes you can import from the Fotos app. They are not what you're looking for so turn them off. Use the film styles setting in camera. Gordon
Jonathan Levin Posted May 21, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted May 21, 2024 I thought film styles applied only to jpg, not dng?????
FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 21, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted May 21, 2024 (edited) 8 hours ago, Jonathan Levin said: I thought film styles applied only to jpg, not dng????? Sort of. Leica embed the styles information into the DNG file as a sidecar type, set of instructions and the EVF/LCD reacts to these and the embedded jpeg preview will show these, even in DNG only. Handy if, for example you shoot DNG only but want a b&w preview in the EVF. Also in Fotos, if you set a style, it will be applied to DNG files as a starting point. Currently this doesn't also work in LR or C1 although I would like the option, ala Fujifilm. It's still a DNG file, just with a set of instructions embedded (like a sidecar file). Fotos can read the instructions. Lightroom can't. Gordon Edited May 21, 2024 by FlashGordonPhotography
