geddon_jt Posted May 20, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I am hoping for some help here. I love our S3 but this camera begs for back button autofocus and I hope it is possible, but I can't find the correct menu settings to achieve it. Right now, if you use the "cross hair" to achieve critical focus on the subject, but then recompose, the second you press the shutter button it refocuses and it becomes impossible to reframe the shot unless the focus point is in the middle of the image (i.e. the cross hairs). Please tell me there is a way to click the little D-pad button in the back to acquire focus, and have it STAY there while you recompose and then shoot with the shutter button? I just want the shutter button to take the photo and nothing else... (I'll deal with exposure later)... haha. Any help appreciated John

Phill H Posted May 20, 2024 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2024 Does activating AF via the joystick work when manual focus option is set?
John McMaster Posted May 20, 2024 Share #3 Posted May 20, 2024 If it is like the S(007) - Customize Controls > AF/AE Lock Button > In AF-Mode-AF-Lock/In MF Mode AFs On and keep the camera in MF. john
Pieter12 Posted May 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2024 Read the manual. Set the camera for MF and make sure the joystick/back button is set to activate single AF.

docrob Posted August 13, 2024 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been struggling with BBF on the S3 and had given up as I was informed that this was not possible. Today while trying out my 120CS lens on a tripod with the Novoflex CastelM rail and the camera in MF, by mistake, I hit the joystick and the camera focused automatically. I am unsure if there are other associated menu settings/steps required but I have now verified that my S3, in manual focus mode will autofocus while pressing the joystick, so for me, this IS BBF on the S3. epines Posted August 13, 2024 Share #8 Posted August 13, 2024 Yes, BBF is possible and easy on the S3. You've discovered how to do it. As mentioned earlier in this thread: "Set the camera for MF and make sure the joystick/back button is set to activate single AF."
