Hi All,

My Q3 seems to randomly lose the functions I set for the Fn 2 button. I keep the Fn 1 button at the default for changing framelines so not sure if I would lose that one too, were it something other than default. It doesn't happen often but I can't seem to correlate to anything such as power on/off, battery change, SD card change, etc. It's a huge pain when it does it because it goes back to its default regardless of User Profile being used, so I have to go through each and every User Profile and re-save that profile.

Previously I chalked it up to my problem-ridden previous Q3 but that was recently replaced with a new camera by Leica under warranty. This one behaves the same way regarding customizing the Fn 2 button. I am diligent about saving my user profiles. I even have an extra SD card I dedicate to just keeping a copy of my user profiles. I also seem to lose my thumbwheel button function as well when this happens (I have thumbwheel button set to Magnification on all my user profiles because I often use manual focus)

The manual says "This camera allows the permanent storage of any menu settings" but clearly this doesn't include Fn 2 or Thumbwheel button, at least not consistently.

Does anyone know exactly what aspects of customization on the camera are saved and how? For example, is Customize Control saved? That one is very time consuming to set up and I've lost all my settings for that. Other settings like Touch AF or others?

AND under what circumstances do you lose settings? Swapping batteries? Swapping SD cards? Camera not being used for X number of hours or days?

All I know for sure is that Fn 2 is never saved with the User Profile even though one has to set it for each profile where you intend to use it.

Curiously I have never lost my Favorites Menu.

In case it matters, I am on firmware 2.0.3. on this Q3 and whatever was current 6 weeks ago for my previous Q3 (when I sent it back to Leica)

If these issues has been discussed or is in the manual, PLEASE enlighten me as to where to find it. I couldn't find anything of much use in the manual. I did find a partial discussion on this forum but it was for a Q and seemed to be an individual camera problem. Mine has happened on two different Q3 cameras acquired a year apart from each other from different sources.

Input appreciated!

Joel

When you notice that a setting has changed, do you hit MENU to check that the profile is still set?

David

Yes. The profiles were all still there. And as far as I could tell, all the settings were there except that Fn 2 went back to default on every profile.

There was an issue reported on the Henry Hudson website wherein firmware 2.0.1 was losing the Fn button 2 assignments after a firmware update, regardless of whether the profiles had been saved and restored:

https://shop.hudsonhenry.com/products/q3-user-profiles

This may not be related to your problem but might be worth noting.

Thank you @SLamb !! I read the article and that sounds like the issue. My new Q3 came with 2.0.1 installed and when I restored my previous Q3 profiles to it, I lost Fn 2 assignments. The question is, now that I have updated to 2.0.3, has that bug been fixed? LOL. Perhaps I will save and restore my profiles and see what happens.

Do you by chance have any insights as to why I lost my Customize Control lists? Maybe the same bug? If not, no worries. You have already helped immensely 😊

My Q3 was delivered with 2.0.1 and I updated the firmware to 2.0.3 using the Fotos app.  After I restored my profiles, the Fn 2 button had reverted to the default of switching between photo and video modes rather than AF lock which is how I use it.  All the other buttons had the settings that I had assigned to them in the profiles, it was just the Fn 2 button that was an issue.  That, and the information bars appearing on the LCD when I have them switched off in my profiles.  I therefore had to go through each profile, long press the Fn 2 button, select AF lock, turn off the information bars on the LCD and re-save each profile.  It does not appear that this issue is resolved in firmware version 2.0.3.

I am sorry to say I do not know why you lost your list, so am unable to offer any insight into that.

Thanks again. I also use Fn 2 for AF lock. And I also had the issue with info bars (and histogram) appearing on the screen. I have gone through the same procedure as you. But I did this all in the last couple days after updating to 2.0.3. And I've backed up my settings.lcs file. Fingers crossed!

Q3, firmware 2.0.3 and AF-L - BBF on FN2

AF-L does not work properly on FN2:  when assigned AF-L to FN2 and using FN2 the AF is not locked,
after pressing shutter button Q3 immediately refocus instead off AF-Lock for one shot.

Only by long push FN2 and (re)assigning AF-L on FN2 then AF-L function is working properly for one shot.
Next shot or next time needs reassigning AF-L on FN2 again.

I had the same problem as MindsEye in the recent Q3 firmware upgrade to 2.0.5. A long press of Fn2 showed it had reverted to the default set of options, even though I had saved and re-imported my customised settings for Fn 2.   Customise Controls even showed it had my customised set assigned to Fn 2 while a long press showed otherwise.  Re-assigning them fixed it.

Q3_43 ver 3.1.1. I am having the same issue as the original poster. Namely that the FN2 button can be remapped to a new function, but will subsequently default back to initial factory setting. (Video)

Having remapped FN2 to user profile, I then went into the customisation menu. (Menu 4 - Customize Control) and, under FN2, turned off the Photo-Video option. This action failed after 1 attempt, and I found that the Photo-Video option, for FN2 had been enabled.

I then repeated the same exercise (para 2) and disabled all options available other than user profile. This produced the same result. All options that had been disabled had in fact been enabled.

Repeated all the above for FN1 button (Digital zoom) and again I produced identical results.

I am left thinking that this is a firmware fault, but I’d appreciate any feedback.

thankyou
