luigi bertolotti Posted December 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 2, 2007 They are a SUPER COLLECTIBLE : very rare, but well documented in Leitz history literature: the were based on the Leica IIIa body, and looked like normal Leica SM, except for the presence of a small add-on window which partially covered the standard VF to frame the 18x24 vertical view (with a 35 mm lens, I seem). They were produced starting from 1950 and production went on very slow, last item built in 1963; 150 pieces made in Leitz Canada, and 33 made in Wetzlar (small differences between the two versions): given its rarity, is impossible to think of a "mean value" : for what I remember, I have seen 3 or 4 for sale in the last 7-8 years... any sale is an event by itself, but I think that, say, 15-20.000 US$ could be a GOOD price.
