A few days ago I was using Capture One 20 to batch-process photos taken in a Paris museum during a recent holiday. Normally I would convert from the Leica DNG format to TIFF, but in this case I also selected JPEG. In most cases the resulting TIFF and JPEG images were identical, but in some instances there was a minor difference in the colour balance, with the JPEG version being slightly 'warmer' than the TIFF.

I can't understand why the choice of format should affect the colour balance of the converted image. But having had little chance until now to use Capture Once,  I'm still a beginner with this program.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'll get the manual PDF that came with the software printed out and bound, and look for the relevant instructions.

But in the meantime I have a more important problem to solve. I have been using Avast Free Antivirus with no problems until now, and update it daily, but as a result of an update some time in the last month (the date of my last C drive backup) updating the AV software or its virus definitions now causes Capture One 20 to lose its registration details.

Time to try a different AV program, I think.

An experiment I conducted just before heading off for my evening meal suggests that the problem may lie not with the AV software but in my Capture One installation.

I restored the C drive from a much earlier backup, then allowed the AV to fully update. Capture One now seems stable.

So tomorrow morning I'll revert to the latest backup, delete its Capture One installation, reboot from cold, then reinstall Capture One.
